edstock Posted September 28, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use an M7, M6, and an M4-P. Photography is about seeing, it’s a visual art as we know. Well my seeing has decreased a point where it is hindered. The cause are cataracts in both eyes. I have been scheduled for surgery dates to remove both cataracts. It is done two weeks apart. As we age cataracts are a naturally occurring problem. I.m 77 years old and was diagnosed with cataracts some yeas ago. They were in the beginning stage and not bothersome. Now they are and will be removed. I only mention this because we have many older photographers who maybe experiencing an out of focused viewfinder. If you feel, or see, a vision problem consult an eye specialist. 1

TomB_tx Posted September 28, 2020 Share #4 Posted September 28, 2020 I also trust the procedure will go well. Although I’m a few years behind you, I’m also seeing increasing effects of cataracts in both eyes, but primarily in flare and halos around bright objects, but I can still see to frame and focus a Leica RF well. However, my hit rate with judging sharpness on an SLR/EVF has decreased (but still better than focus peaking). My doctor asked me to decide whether I want my lenses to best correct at near or far distance without glasses, or have one eye each way. I’ll still need glasses for astigmatism so it’s not a clear choice. I’ve been nearsighted for 62 years, so I’ll probably keep what I’m used to. I have the two different ones and don’t wear glasses anymore. They work great. The right eye is close vision and the left Is far. No problem with the rangefinder. She had mono vision with contact lenses prior to her procedures and continues with that post procedure but with no glasses at all. She can see detail like a hawk. Luke_Miller Posted September 29, 2020 Share #7 Posted September 29, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had my cataract surgery done several years ago. While it corrected my astigmatism (20/40 -> 20/20) I still need a small diopter correction for my farsightedness. Since each eye was done at a different time I could see the affect the cataracts were having on my vision. The big difference was a dramatic change in contrast and color. With the cataract I felt like I was looking through a weak orange filter that also reduced contrast. That reduction in contrast made focusing my digital Ms a real challenge. Much easier now. I second edstock's recommendation.
