LeicaR Posted September 22, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I was wondering what can be used to maintain a vintage 1950s Leica iiif leather case and strap clean and supple. They’re really good right now with no visible damage, cracking or harness so I want to keep them that way. thank you all in advance for your assistance and guidance. 62248656345__0EEC4651-E683-4422-839A-BE8097F6BBEF.MOV

Reini Posted September 22, 2020 Share #3 Posted September 22, 2020 My treatment is this: First, the light areas are coated with shoe paste from the tube. It doesn't smell strong. Not the normal shoe paste from the can! Not the seams, otherwise they will also be dark. Then with beeswax balm. But only coat the smooth areas! stuny Posted September 23, 2020 Share #4 Posted September 23, 2020 I would imagine a good saddle soap would work well. It certainly does for tack (leather bridles & saddles)

mariah Posted December 29, 2020 Share #8 Posted December 29, 2020 You can easily keep them clean by wiping it and then polishing them with leather shiner of course. I have saved plenty of leather items in this manner and they are go das new till now. Keeping leather perfectly fine is tough, once they get damaged it is impossible to make them look just like new. We should all take good care of out leather belongings and clean them regularly after heavy use. Using too much polishing stuff is also harmful so I would suggest to just wipe it gently and keep them clean regularly and polish them occasionally.
