Here is a little visual support. Like @Erikvw I’d also say the 28 Safari is the best possible match for your M10 Safari. And of course the best compromise between weight and speed.

I would go for the Cron since it is a limited production run (most presumably). The Lux will be available for a long time and I guess the availability of used version will slightly increase. 🙂

Hey guys

If you could buy 28 safari and 28lux limited at the same price, which one would you choose? I think 28 lux limited is 300 pieces . Which better? Quality and....?

Same price? 😳 Then the silver 28 Lux of course. — Err, wait… you buy both and sell me the silver Lux for the price of the Safari then. 😜

Both lenses have nearly identical IQ. The Lux is heavier but therefore you get this very shallow depth of field at f1.4 which is a seducing fact to some of us.

Actually i have one offer for 28lux almost 5k$.

I shoot with M10 Monochrome and SL2.
i have 3 lens for m10m

35 cron chrome

50 apo chrome

75 apo.
i need one wide lens ( wider than 35 mm)

My firend suggest this lens ( 28 lux limited )

Price is tempting, but 28 is close to 35.

Grab it and sell it without loss if you’re finally not convinced. But I bet this won’t happen. 😊 Some days ago I shared my thoughts on a 35/28 question here:

So. You say 28 is no close to 35 and i can use different?

No, they are close but so are 35/50 and 50/75. At least I use 28 and 35 differently.

You started with the question wether to go for Safari Cron or silver chrome Lux and I just wanted to encourage you to get that silver 28.

Actually the 28 acts more like a 21 and the 35 acts more like a 50. So on paper they're close but are different. If I were wanting a wide to work with 35mm I'd get a 21 or 24. When I travel I usually go with a 21, 35 & 50. BTW, most interesting discussion here. My 28mm is quite elderly and I've thought of updating. I'd love the Lux but not crazy about weight (I have a Noctilux so I know "heavy"). The v2 of the 28mm Summicron seems pretty alright.

I find that the M 28 Summicron (v.1) renders similarly to the M 50 Summilux ASPH, not the M 50 APO Summicron , which has a cleaner, more modern aesthetic, with even greater APO correction.  All superior lenses in any case, with opportunities (as you note) to adjust renderings.

Jeff

I fully agree with this and have yet to find a 28 that renders most sympathetically with the 50 APO-Summicron.

Although I use my 28 Summicron v2 with it, the 28 Elmarit ASPH is probably a better match.  I suspect the 28 Summilux is ideal but it’s really not a lens that I want.

There are some optical advantages of the 28 Summicron v2 over v1 (I have both) but they have an identical character - both still better  with the 50 Summilux.

A tribute to one of my favorite lenses of all time: Summicron 28mm ASPH II

A lovely read thank you very much. It came across that the 28 summicron has your heart judging from the blog post, so I would be interested in hearing your thoughts about your new 28 lux. particularly about why you decided to switch and if the extra stop with its amazing wide open character outweighs the significant weight jump (approx 170grams i think). I have a 28 lux, and am contemplating the switch to the 28 cron v2

I personally sold my Cron 28 ASPH II (I had 2 in a span of 3 months) and finally acquired my dream lens, which was the Lux 28.

While the extra stop of light is great, but the main seller is the way that this lens renders, which to me, is second to none. However...the lens is not practical to use as a “walk around” lens and I dread carrying it with me mounted in my M10-D.

I'm actually thinking of selling the Lux 28 and going back to the Cron 28 ASPH II because I realized I grabbed my camera more often with the Cron over the Lux.

Hold on, you are saying that the Q equals the 28 Lux?

Well, not completely of course, but it equals the DOF of a 28mm 1.4 summilux. For me personally i like the fact that i also have the possibility on the Q of using the macro function, autofocus and the fact that i have a second body, beside the M10-P as an extra. The combination of these 2 camera's suits me well.

I don't know if you red the article about the comparison of these 2 lenses by Thorsten von Overgaard

The problem when owning both is chosing which one to use! When I had both, I always regretted not bringing the one I left home with me. Now that I sold my Q2, im depressed and I want to sell my M10R and get a Q2 again. the paradox of the choice is real.

Haha, quite recognizable. I tune in to the camera i have with me, but am still glad i can choose😉
