The lack of a tilting display on the SL2 makes it  difficult to shoot from low or other than eye level angles. Has anyone tried to put a secondary display, say mounted on the flash shoe so that it becomes easy to see the with  low or difficult angles. I saw using the Atomos Ninja for also recording video. Can the iPhone mounted on the hot shoe be a possibility or any other display option?

Hi, the iPhone will work using fotos.  Even be able to trigger the capture from it.  Not sure I would want to though - unwieldy ?

You should have bought the S1R instead 🙂 That does not help, I know. I don't think that the phone option is very practical. If you have the idea of a low angle shot, you have to open the app, establish a connection between phone and camera and then you can shoot. That can be quite cumbersome.

There are quite a few small monitors that don't record video. You will find them much lighter/cheaper than the Ninja. Most come with adapter plates for Sony L-Mount or Canon batteries, so you'll have to add batteries and a charger to the price. You will also need some kind of mounting system if they don't come with a hotshoe mount, and a short HDMI cable.

It's best to try it out in a shop if you can. Some of the mounting systems are very poorly designed (hard to adjust).
