Jan Jurgensen Posted August 4, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 4, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I hope that someone who has experienced this problem, or a similar one, will read this and offer advice. I am using the M10 along with the Adobe subscription software. Therefore I expect to have always up-to-date software – and bugs being removed in short order. Here is the short version. I use the Leica Summarit-M 35mm f/2.4 ASPH as my go to lens on the M10. When I mount the lens on the camera and hit the info button, the info display correctly shows 2.4 / 35 mm. When I import the raw file to lightroom classic on the pc, then the metadata in the “library” section correctly identifies the lens: LEICA Summarit-M 1:2.4/35 ASPH. But when I open “lens corrections” of the “develop” section the lens is not recognized. Actually there is an error message: “unable to locate a matching profile automatically”. I can of course activate the lens profile manually from the lightroom table: “Leica SUMMARIT-M 35 mm f/2.4 ASPH.” But I expect the system to do so automatically. All this did work for this lens up to September of last year. Then it stopped working. It still works for other lenses. Hoping for help from the learned forum. Advertisement Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Hi Jan Jurgensen, Take a look here Problem with lightroom lens detection. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
zeitz Posted August 4, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2020 This is not unique to Leica cameras or specific lenses. For some reason Adobe has set "Lens Corrections/Profile/Enable Profile Corrections" in Lightroom (and "Optics/Profile/Use Profile Corrections" in Camera Raw) to unchecked as the default. I hope someone can tell us how to find and set the preference to checked. There must be a way to do this, but I have never found it even though I have looked for it many times. Jeff S Posted August 4, 2020 Share #3 Posted August 4, 2020 According to this, the cause may remain a mystery... https://lightroomkillertips.com/what-to-do-when-lightroom-cant-find-your-lens-profile/ You might also do a search, or check the Adobe forum, for similar questions. The answers provided from other users might provide a solution in this particular case. Jeff
zeitz Posted August 4, 2020 Share #4 Posted August 4, 2020 Jeff, I thought you would be the one who know the answer. Maybe one has to create a User Preset to get "automatic" enabling of profiles. I almost always use User Presets that I have made for cameras and lighting combinations, but I never thought to add enabling of lens profiles to these presets. There are many possible answers, depending on the user’s specific circumstances. Frankly, I was too lazy to provide a list, but a general search, or Adobe forum search, will quickly bring up some possibilities. Or, as the linked article noted, it’s an issue that might not always have a solution. Jeff
Jan Jurgensen Posted August 5, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted August 5, 2020 Someone else must have the same lens (2.4 / 35 mm) and software (lightroom classic) and perhaps solved the problem? As suggested above, I have registered the problem in the Adope support site. I also searched the site for similar problems, but no luck so far. Jan Jurgensen Posted August 18, 2020 Author Share #8 Posted August 18, 2020 The new version of lightoom, August 2020 version 9.4, does not fix the problem. Both the camera (Leica M10) and the lens (Leica M Summarit 35mm f/2.4) appear on the list of support systems, just as they did on the previous version of lightroom. Luke_Miller Posted August 18, 2020 Share #9 Posted August 18, 2020 (edited) You might find that the lens data "LEICA Summarit-M 1:2.4/35 ASPH" in your EXIF is not recognized by Lightroom as the “Leica SUMMARIT-M 35 mm f/2.4 ASPH” so automatic correction fails. Across my Leica digital M bodies I find as many as three variations of lens nomenclature recorded in EXIF for the same lens. I suspect there is only one set of nomenclature per lens that Lightroom will automatically recognize. Edited August 18, 2020 by Luke_Miller
Jan Jurgensen Posted August 19, 2020 Author Share #10 Posted August 19, 2020 I think you are right there. It is a data problem rather than logic problem. But how to encourage Adope to stick to the same nomenclature for all lenses?
