Manual using focus peaking vs auto focus

Recommended Posts

I use manual focus on my Q (not a Q2) more than 90% of the time.  This isn't so much about getting something in focus as it is getting the right thing in focus, especially with a 28mm lens.  Using a back button with center focus gets me close, but manual focus with peaking still works better for me more often than not.

Unfortunately, you are right that AF can be inaccurate sometimes.  When there is a high contrast object in the back or light source, Q2 AF often locks to the wrong thing (even in spot focus mode with cross hair).  The good thing is MF, although by wire, is position locked with tab and highly responsive (the best focus by wire implementation I have ever used), and thus very usable.  I do wish Leica would improve Q2 AF in the next update.
