csuedn Posted July 23, 2020 Share #1 Posted July 23, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys I see something near the edge of my 75mm f2 apo, I’m not exactly sure if that’s a lens separation or fungus, I don’t think it has impacted the image quality yet, but not sure if it will get worse many thanks jim Welcome, dear visitor! spydrxx Posted July 23, 2020 Share #2 Posted July 23, 2020 Fungus typically appears as diverse semi-opaque dots or spidery webs

Yes, no fungus by sure... but is annoying... makes to think at an assembly process (or choice of materials) not really perfect... the Apo 75 wasn't manufactured by Leica... 🙄

Still looks like separation.
250swb Posted July 23, 2020 Share #7 Posted July 23, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) The pattern is typical of dust and 'stuff' that adheres to the lens through humidity over the years, as in the last place to clear are the edges. I think it should clean off with a wipe.
pgk Posted July 23, 2020 Share #8 Posted July 23, 2020 (edited) Not balsam separation simply because makers don't use balsam anymore. They tend to use UV cured adhesives which are usually pretty stable from what I gather. So I'd be surprised if it got worse, but the real question is; what is the cause? Are you sure that its something new, because it would make better sense if it had been there all the time? I'd actually ask Leica to see what they think. I'm assuming that it is definitely inside the lens and not one the exterior of the front element? Edited July 23, 2020 by pgk

I bought this lens only recently from EBay, I didn’t notice it until recently, then when I look at the EBay picture, I think it was there all the time. This is definitely inside the lens tho
farnz Posted July 23, 2020 Share #10 Posted July 23, 2020 £64,000 question: does it affect the pictures taken through it? If not, it's probably not worth losing sleep over. If you're still in time to return the lens and obtain a refund then you have an option. Pete.
