It is definitely no M7 or M6 TTL because of the higher top plate. If the windows of both the viewfinder and the illumination of the frame lines show the same upper lineage -> its the lower top plate, that means MP or M6 (classic). But I don't know if Leica manufactured the MP in the "a la carte-program" with the rewind crank...

evikne Posted July 17, 2020 Share #12 Posted July 17, 2020 (edited) I've learned a lot from this thread. Until now I haven't been fully aware of the differences between the older M models, and I didn't know of the a la carte program and that is was possible to order an MP with an M7 style rewind crank (no wonder i was confused): https://www.cameraquest.com/leicaMalacarte.htm Edited July 17, 2020 by evikne

imken Posted July 22, 2020 Share #14 Posted July 22, 2020 Does anyone know what this component is called? Is it possible to just get this component swapped? Welcome, dear visitor! Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Yes, it’s possible, but why would you want to? The combination of this “cassette latch wheel” and the spoked wheel at the opposite end, marks the baseplate as M4 or early M6 era. The latch can be used with IXMOO cassettes, but of course will not interfere with regular (non-reusable) cassettes. Is the finish of the plate black chrome or black paint? If you still want to get rid of the latch, I’d be happy to swap it for one of my late M6-types with the later flat wheel. PM me if so.
imken Posted July 22, 2020 Share #16 Posted July 22, 2020 Hello Mate, Mine is a black paint, not black chrome. I am intending to use the IXMOO cassette. That is the reason I wanted to change the latch wheel. I have someone who has mentioned that he is willing to swap with me in Singapore as well. I do appreciate your reply and offer. Cheers, ken
M9reno Posted July 22, 2020 Share #17 Posted July 22, 2020 No problem, Ken. Good luck! I like using IXMOO cassettes, so I much prefer M6 plates with this type of latch wheel.
