Advertisement Posted July 11, 2020 Posted July 11, 2020 Hi Kamyar, Take a look here 24mm f3.8 or 28mm f2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LeicaR10 Posted July 11, 2020 Share #2 Posted July 11, 2020 (edited) Kamyar, It would depend on your genre of photography. Personally, I find the 24 Elmar to be superb. It has excellent color, contrast, near zero field curvature, highly resolving and little to no distortion. You might find the 28 too close to your 35, although some people have both. You might also keep in mind you can crop to 28mm from the 24mm but not the other way around. I use the 24 for landscape and street photography with the M10-M and results are excellent. Hope this helps. r/ Mark Edited July 11, 2020 by LeicaR10

pop Posted July 11, 2020 Share #4 Posted July 11, 2020 Particularly for landscape I think you should take the 24mm, given that you already have 12mm and 35mm. The quality of the 24mm lens is outstanding.
SiggiGun Posted July 11, 2020 Share #5 Posted July 11, 2020 Both lenses are great! For me M, It is more a question of: 1/what type of photos I want / should take 2/what type of combo, I will take with me 3/what type of rendering I am looking for That means : 28cron + 50cron or 75cron 24Elmar + 28-35-50Mate + 90MElmar 24Elmar + 35Lux... Per example
LeicaR10 Posted July 11, 2020 Share #6 Posted July 11, 2020 (edited) Kamyar, To answer your question in your Post #3 to me, I must say the 24 Elmar is the far better lens. I previously mentioned the qualities of the 24 Elmar. Many photographers never appreciated the many optical qualities the lens possesses. The 28m Summicron although improved in V2 optical to at the edges, it IMO isn't as good as the 24 Elmar. The 24 Elmar also one of the highest resolving M lenses and has no issues as some photographers initially reported with focus shift and centering issues with the updated Summicron. I have owned all three 28 M lenses for my business over time, but never bonded with any of them. The 24 Elmar is a truly exceptional lens and IMO a much better choice over the 28 Summicron. But other photographers all have their own opinions, likes and dislikes. I can only suggest based on my experience and my clients who buy my photographs taken with the M10-M and 24 Elmar. I hope this helps. r/ Mark Edited July 11, 2020 by LeicaR10 2
RayD28 Posted July 11, 2020 Share #7 Posted July 11, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Kamyar, my personal opinion is their more difference between 35mm and 28mm than the 7mm difference might imply. This will muddy the waters, but you might consider a 21mm 3.8 SEM. I don't have either a 21mm or a 24mm but I read both lenses are fantastic. Either way you can't go wrong. Again, I take the 28cron only in combination with the 59cron if f2. 0 is required
farnz Posted July 11, 2020 Share #9 Posted July 11, 2020 To add some balance I think the 28/2 Summicron is a superb lens, described by Erwin Puts as one of the best of Leica's lenses, and in my view has the best micro-contrast of any of Leica's modern lenses, which translates to the most gradual transition from white to black and therefore producing the largest array of tones. RMF Posted July 11, 2020 Share #10 Posted July 11, 2020 Just want to add my support for the 24 Elmar 3.8, it’s just a fantastic lens in all respects. Unfortunately it’s now a discontinued lens and getting somewhat difficult to find. This one might be destined to become a future Leica cult classic as it seems it’s unanimously praised by nearly all.
CosmoM3 Posted July 11, 2020 Share #11 Posted July 11, 2020 the 24mm Elmar is definitely on my short list of lenses, however I am one of those weird guys that have the following: Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH II Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH II Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH Leica Q-P My 28mm FoV can confuse me at times and I can see myself picking up the 24mm Elmar as a trade over the 28mm Cron. jrp Posted July 11, 2020 Share #12 Posted July 11, 2020 Technically, the 24mm is a great modern lens. The 28 mm is very good too, but a less. Odeon design. So I’d go by the need for f2 / f2.8 and the need for clean, flat field images ...

tgray Posted July 12, 2020 Share #19 Posted July 12, 2020 28 Summicron is my favorite lens. I think it is fantastic. I don’t own a 35mm lens anymore, so take my preferences with a grain of salt. I think 28 matches well with 50mm. Looking at your lens set, I’d recommend looking at a 21mm lens instead of 24 or 28. There are a lot of good choices at that focal length, and I’ve seen multiple people who find that 21mm pairs well with 35mm. 2
tgray Posted July 12, 2020 Share #20 Posted July 12, 2020 (edited) I should have added since you have an M10 Monochrom: the Zeiss ZM 21/4.5 is pretty great on this camera. Edited July 12, 2020 by tgray
