Master unit for SF40 flash?

Hi all

I've not used flash very much apart from as fill-in for portraits, but I have an upcoming project that may require a little more of it. I have a Leica SF40 flash which I know can work as a slave when combined with the right master unit. 

Any suggestions as to what the right master unit would be?

Not with TTL. The SF40 doesn't operate as a TTL slave. It has no inbuilt slave functionality. The SF60 does. You could run it as a dumb slave with a cheap shoe and trigger but it'd be totally manual in use and power settings.

I use them professionally since 2016, never had a problem. They are only manual. I use them with Nikon, but they work also with my Leica M10

The trigger and the flash, both mounts on my Leica M10. But the trigger is kind of tricky to put it. But it's ok. Now I post a video 🙂

One other question: from your video it looks as though the flash is connected to the unit by a cable? I need a wifi cable-free setup. Any thoughts?

Would you not be able to use the SF40 as the primary flash on camera and use a cheap slave flash that can be triggered by the flash on the main? You can get slave flashes for <$20.
