As always, excellent and full of good information that goes beyond the lenses themselves. I was particularly interested as he used my 90 elmarit. It was gratifying to see such an erudite testing coming up with the same basic opinion I have about this lens- that it really delivers in every way, accurate (and fast) focusing at all stops, excellent resolution. In this regard I was surprised to see that at 2.8 it was just a hair, if that, behind the summicron ASPH in the center, and ahead, (clearly) in the corner. Pretty impressive that it realizes such resolution wide open. So, check out the great review. Do you happen to know, or does anyone else, whether the later, 55mm thread Pre-ASPH 90 Summicron is the same formula as the earlier lens with the multi-piece collapsing lens hood and tripod socket? I concur on the thin tele-elmarit--great little lens, if apt to flare shot into the light, but better with a hood, and an excellent performer for the 500-600 they seem to be going for in good shape currently. Hi Mark - well, if they somehow manage a 2.5 that stands up to the elmarit in quality, at a lower cost, more power to them and good for future 90mm buyers I suppose, even if it does mean discontinuing this gem. I highly recommend this lens. I wish mine acted like that. Unfortunately the thin Tele-Elmarit seems to suffer from serious sample variations. When it works, it's great, but there are some serious lemos out there. DAG overhauled mine and it still flares like crazy at the slightest provocation (even with a deep hood). I don't think it's a problem with the optical elements, but is caused by reflections occurring on the inside of the barrel. The flare has a distinct sickle shape, like a reflection coming of a ring. I really wish Leica had released an updated version of the Tele-Elmarit, instead of the 4/90 Macro, but then again the new Summarit looks like it may fit that bill. stunsworth Posted August 15, 2007 Share #20 Posted August 15, 2007 One thing not mentioned about the Voigtlander 90 is that it loses paint from the body very easily, especially from the milled ridges on the barrel.
