Hi All,

I am looking for a LEICA/LEITS SUMMICRON 1:2/35MM F2, 8 ELEMENTS, the first version of the lens from the 1960'. Possibly in good conditions.

Is anyone can suggest me where to find it. I am doing some research with the retailers and on the web.

Attached image of the lens.

Many thanks,

Best,

Giulio

Couple of them here.

Do you think would the lens would work well on a Sony A7RII or given the lens is not aspherical the image quality could be not the best - so not worth the buy.

Attached 2 examples from Thorsten Von Overgaard with this lens. This is the image quality, I would like to reach.

Thank you,

Best,

Giulio.

There is one here too. Excellent source. I would avoid eBay at all costs.

I have to say I am amazed at the prices... is this lens the current Leica fad? You may want to take a look at the similar 2.8 Summaron, I've read many times that people think this is equivalent or even better than the Summicron... and much cheaper... for now.

I'd like to second ianman, really amazing prices and way too high IMHO. Actually I don't have a 2.8 Summaron at hands but remember it as equally, as is the Summilux, just one f-stop faster but character is same.

Thank you, as well for the link.

I am quite amazed by the price too honestly, the 2.8 Summaron looks a good idea. Any suggestions where to find that, eventually in London or in England so it's easy to go and try it on.

Best,

Giulio.

I’ve been looking, but haven’t yet found a clean copy in the mount version that I prefer (there are three, possibly four if you believe in the factory ‘dual mount’).

Thank you, exactly I find price too high too.

Are these taken with the Summicron (version 1) on a Sony, not sure If cost/result is worth it..

I have no experience with the 35/2 v1 but i would not advise purchasing such an expensive lens for use on any Sony body if it is not a Kolari modded one. My Summicron's 35/2 v4 and 35/2 asph work perfectly on my Kolari modded A7s BTW.

My fear is that on a Sony Body you'll need especially ASPH lenses. Do you have any issues with the Kolari sensor if you use a Sony lens then, can I ask you where did you installed.

Old M lenses work fine too, even better so for some of them than on my M240. The Kolari mod is no for jpeg shooters though as colors must be tweaked a bit in PP. I have only two Sony lenses but i haven't got any problem with them. Beware that the Kolari modification will be made by Kolari only and will void the Sony warranty.

I do shoot RAW+JPEG but honestly don't do much post production. Thank you, I guess will have a to think about it a bit more :)

My first port of call would be Red Dot Cameras but they only have a goggled version at the moment.

Red Dot Cameras did have a 35 V1 for sale up until a couple of days ago.  It was mine and being sold on commission, I only asked for it back earlier this week as I'd missed the lens.  It was up for sale for £3400.  Looking at the eBay prices I too find them very high, approx 1000 more than what my lens was priced for.  I purchased my lens last year from Germany from a reputable dealer a 1966 German made version.  However, on receiving the lens (I'm in the UK) there was a fair amount of dust in the lens and the focus showed signs of slippage towards infinity.  The dealer was very good and refunded some of the cost towards a CLA.  The lens was then serviced at Leica and now works perfectly.

I think I was lucky and looking at the prices on eBay I wouldn't take the risk unless I could physically inspect the lens.

I agree with you, you need to see it and test is on first. Can I ask you why you sold it, where you not happy with the results
