Perhaps the HK Leica store will be willing to give you some or all of the extras you list without any additional charge. Checked on that. They cannot do anything on price or anything with regards to bundling with a bunch of other items I want. The only thing they offer is a 1 year extra warranty in Greater China only and their store service. The service is good and I like the guys there but is it US$1,000+ good? It would appear that Leica have just set their price in Hong Kong wrong. The difference between other countries is minimal but the difference in Hong Kong is huge. Cheers, Delirious. I’d ask them to put it aside for your weekend visit. It may not be truly new, but perfect in every way. I used to be a regular visitor to HK. My favourite city. Hope to return next year. good luck. Thanks. I think I will take a wander around all the camera shops at the weekend including the authorised Leica dealers and just see what price I can get. If they are all offering similar prices to the Leica Store then I'll head back to the Leica Store and get it there. If I can a deal that is a considerable improvement on the Leica Store then I think will do that. Cheers, Delirious
johntobias Posted May 14, 2020 Share #24 Posted May 14, 2020 Dealers like to see the colour of your money...they are much more likely to discount face-to-face (well 2m apart 😉 ).....let them have a bit of profit and be sympathetic and friendly....you may get a great deal
johntobias Posted May 14, 2020 Share #25 Posted May 14, 2020 Incidently, Harrisons, the leica dealer, here in the UK have just got a delivery of Q2 from Germany...they are £4195 which is approx 39,600 HK$ or 5110 US$.....that is about a £300 discount from the leica store

As I said I was leaving and would need to think about it they pulled the box out and put it on the counter trying to get me to buy. It nearly worked I have to say but I walked away saying I needed to do further research. There is definitely no budging on price from the Leica Store here in Hong Kong. Doing some research it would appear that here are quite a few local stores in Hong Kong with it advertised for under HK$35,000 and some even lower than that. Now I'm not trying to buy at the lowest price or beat any dealers into submission. I'm happy to pay a fair price and want the dealer to make profit. They need to stay in business. I just want to buy at what is a fair price when compared with Europe and the US. I think a walk around a few of the stores in TST, Hong Kong will see me find something at the right price with the right service. Unfortunately though I think the Leica Store has really got the pricing wrong here when compared not only what you can get from other local camera stores but with their own stores in Europe and USA. Thanks, Delirious.
lucerne Posted May 14, 2020 Share #27 Posted May 14, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Out of interest, what is the name of the store you visited. I know that I found many stores with leica signs but they were just large electronic Supermarkets and should be avoided. When I asked the price of the M10 in IFC Mall, they quoted a high price then started giving discounts. Eventually, they reached the true price. At that point (and to their surprise)I took my M10 out my bag. Those stores are not true Leica shops. I suggest you refer to the following article and follow their guidance. It’s out of date but the best advice is still valid and the best sources are still around. https://www.macfilos.com/2015/10/19/2015-10-16-hong-kong-leica-dealers-an-afternoon-stroll-round-the-cream-of-the-crop/ Edited May 14, 2020 by lucerne

I visited both the Leica Store in IFC Mall and Causeway Bay. Both are listed on the Leica website as the only official Leica Stores in Hong Kong. There are other “Authorised Leica Dealers” in Hong Kong that sell Leica as well as other brands but only the IFC Mall and Causeway Bay are listed on the website as Leica Stores. Neither of them will discount even when asking face-to-face and stating I’m willing to buy but the price is high when compared to Leica Store prices in US and Europe. Thanks also for the article. I plan to visit these places at the weekend and I’m pretty sure I’ll find an attractive deal on a new Q2 there. Cheers, Delirious.
Delirious123 Posted May 16, 2020 Author Share #29 Posted May 16, 2020 Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who helped here and sent me DM's with recommendations. I've just got back from TST in Hong Kong and spent the morning with Alex from Rangefinder. He couldn't have been more helpful. He offered me a great price on a Q2, as advertised on his website, and he threw in a screen protector and a B&W UV filter as a lens protector for free. I also bought the Thumbs Up attachment (not the Leica one) and a decent sized fast memory card from him. I didn't haggle or negotiate. I paid the price he asked no questions. I'm not out there to rob people of their businesses I just wanted a fair price when compared to Leica pricing in the US and Euro. Alex spent plenty of time going through the camera with me and answering any questions I had. He was very careful to not open anything until I was there and said he could only open it if I bought as he didn't have a demonstration model. I thought this very fair. He also took time to show me all the serial numbers, manufacturer date and basically put me at ease that all was legitimate. I basically saved a third over the Leica Hong Kong pricing and I'm very happy. I now look forward to getting it out and using it in anger. I did ask Alex why Leica HK is so expensive and he explained that it is all controlled by Leica China. In China there is a sales tax and therefore they want to keep the pricing in HK the same as China so that people don't travel to HK just to get the camera here tax free. Crazy if you ask me considering you can buy it in the US online and have it shipped! Cheers, Delirious. 2

It is always advisable to prefer a good local shop over online purchase, especially with Leica gear.

lucerne Posted May 16, 2020 Share #36 Posted May 16, 2020 (edited) LexS IMHO this offer on Amazon is very suspect. The seller isn't a Leica dealer. Check his previous deals. There will be extra costs for delivery to another country, and repairs will require the Q2 to be sent back to the original US importer. All things considered, its not good advice to someone located in Hong Kong where there are a wide selection of authorised Leica dealers. The OP has bought his new Q2 from a very reputable and local HK dealer at an agreeable price. Perhaps you should visit Hong Kong for a really fun Leica experience. Delirious123 Posted May 21, 2020 Author Share #39 Posted May 21, 2020 So just as a final follow up I've been out on the streets and taken my first few shots with the camera. You can find here https://www.instagram.com/_jhardcastle/ The shots are mediocre which is all me and not the camera, I'm learning, and thoroughly enjoying the learning process. The results though blow me away. I've never had anything like this before. I'm also learning Lightroom for the first time. With more use I'll improve and hopefully so will my results. Constructive criticism and feedback gladly received. Thanks again to all for your inputs and guidance. I can't get enough of shooting with this camera. Cheers, Delirious.
