Pity Cosina / Zeiss don't fill out their lens line. Could do with a little updating (especially to stop the corner performance issues with their wider lenses) and bring out a few more 1.4 primes. I know Voigtlander has a lovely line of new vintage and optically very good lenses, but the Zeiss ZM lenses are just fabulous. 28 f1.4 or f2 , smaller 35 f1.4 and a 90 f2 would be interesting.

Cosina Zeiss ZM is ugly ducklings. IMO.

I think, Leica Camera AG lenses are very expensive for whatever reason and slow Summarits are not selling well due to more appealing completion at lower price range.

I find it funny that people are complaining that these lenses sold-out, and didn't sell enough...

Leica has limited production capacity. It's pointless to tell them to produce lenses 'for philosophical reasons,' when they could instead produce lenses that customers actually buy. There is no lack of budget-friendly alternatives, with almost 70 years of compatible M lenses, lots of M-mount lenses made by third parties, and adaptable lenses.

I have those budget-friendly old lenses (some from 1930's Summar/Elmar, some Canon LTM, etc.), but I'm glad to try out those new(er) Summarit-M 35/50/75

which give other modern(ish) rendering, gender without beeing "lagged" with too much characters (like older lenses).

I understand that these Summarit-M are not for Leica fans, then Leica decision to stop making them, that's fine with me,

even if I have to complete the family though, with the last 90mm 😉.

They build them in batches and intermittently so the plan was undoubtedly  set some time ago and announced as stock were running low.

It depends where the management wants to go?

http://www.streetshootr.com/the-problem-with-leica-camera/

I agree mostly with the text. I wouldnt buy anything except M body and lenses. Mostly used ones anyway.

If the management want go SL2 and S3 and try to compete, well good luck! It will be same destiny as it was with R-cameras. People wont buy it anyway. $$$ dictates everything that includes Walmart and Amazon. Look how it goes for Nikon.

I still believe that focusing on limited products is more of a win-win than fleshing out the portfolio in trying to compete with everyone.

wonderful news for Leica in corona times while selling Noctilux and Summliux in all focal lengths.

Plus announced publicly by Leica Miami after hearing from Leica.

I’ve also confirmed with a Leica contact.

Nooo! The 24mm Elmar-M 24 f/3.8 ASP ... So no more new 24's in the loupe? 😒 Moreover, to get a 90mm (but no macro), it would be a minimum of $5k for the Apo? 😒

Only two years in the Leica world, but I'm better understanding that if you want to stick with only Leica M lenses, you have to spend a lot. For the moment I have only one Leica lens, my 50 Cron V, bought used at FForbes.
In my case, if I want a much wider lens than 35mm, because I don't like the 28mm so much focal length, I would have to skip to the 21mm SEM? Does it worth $3.3k for a 3.4? A super-wide lens would be for me to use at 5.6 or 11 only, don't need a fast wide lens. If not, I can just give a try to the 21 CV Color Skopar f/4 ... Not sure if it's just a regular lens, or it's the best commitment price/performance because of the $500 only. I heard good things about it, except for one comment. Not sure if it applies for the M10: "Although wonderful on film, this lens is awful on the M9 because its rear nodal point is too close to the sensor."

What do you think?

The 90 Macro Elmar can be purchased without the macro adapter as an excellent general purpose lens, selling new for $3895 at B&H.  Only f4, but otherwise a top and compact lens, highly rated by Puts and others.

Used Leica lenses, sold by reputable dealers with warranty and return policy, can be excellent buys.  And other companies make some great lenses, too.

For a focal length like a 21 - 50 range, I'm fine with a f2.4 aperture or more. But for a 90mm, for portraits, IMHO it can't be more than f/2.4 ... I don't see the point to get a 90mm f/4, specially for almost $4k. But it's me, I'm sure it's a beautiful glass.

Thanks to all of you, I got my 50 Cron V buying at Fforbes. Very good deal, amazing lens at Exc++ condition, and very good service. I would never buy a used Leica on Ebay, right?

Do you know if the 21 CV f/4 can be fine for an M10? (according to the bad feedback above, that I don't even know what it means, just can imagine)

The 21 SEM is the pinnacle of design for that focal length but that’s irrelevant if you’re not likely to use it a lot. The new CV 3,5/21 would then be a more cost effective choice. If 24mm really speaks to you, consider the ZM 2,8/25 instead of the 24 Elmar.

I don't want to go out of the topic of the OP, but I have a quick question for you guys if you don't mind. Just one, I promise 🙏

The lens you say is this one, right? I guess it would be a very good commitment for a 21mm at excellent price. Do you know the difference between the f/4 version and the 3.5? Except obviously for aesthetics, weight, ASPH element, and different minimum aperture? I'm talking about any performance issues for focus shift, purple fringe, vignette, or sharpening. Do you know if it renders well on an M10?

I ask you because I'm "afraid" of this feedback I heard online, and I don't know what it means: "Although wonderful on film, this lens (21 CV f/4) is awful on the LEICA M9 because its rear nodal point is too close to the sensor" ... I guess because it's a very small pancake lens?

Thank you!

That is the one.

The ƒ/4 version was designed for film and doesn't play well with full-spectrum sensors; "Italian flag" corner phenomenon. This new one is well-behaved. Better than even the Zeiss 2,8/21, also a product of film days.

Awesome, thank you so much! I would love to get the 24mm Elmar-M 24 f/3.8, as I said above. But with my incomes situation due the pandemic, it's VERY out of the budget. But it's on my radar. Hope Leica doesn't discontinue it soon.

Thank you again

There's a used one available from LeicaStore Miami for a fair price.

24/3.8 looks nice. Im hunting it for the single wide angle lens :D

For 90mm, Elmarit looks good and not so expensive. But why not Summarit which is even lighter. My 90 pre APO is so hard to focus and slow to work.

Yes, the 90 Summarit would be a great option for me, if Leica don't discontinue it soon. I live in Mexico, and here there are not Leica stores or authorized sellers at all. Leica don't exist. I would have to buy it used online. Or be lucky once I'll travel in the US (who knows when) to find one.

Optically I heard is an amazing lens. Hard to focus and slow to work why? Just curious
