Not quite up to Leica standards but a very good lens at an attractive price on the used market (~$400-450). I just sold my full kit 28 1.9 ASPH, including focus stick IMO, it is on pair with 28 Cron. Just too big lens for me. None of 28, 35 and 50 ASPH CV VM lenses I had were with focus shifts.
Advertisement Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Hi Ko.Fe., Take a look here What is best 28mm lens for M mount?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Musotographer Posted May 8, 2020 Share #22 Posted May 8, 2020 I love my Elmarit pre-Asph v4, especially on the M9M or M10M. I had the Asph v1 but swapped and recouped some money in the process. For me it's a better size - the Asph is just TOO small - and the rendering is more gentle. Also It seems never to flare, so a hood is unnecessary. Mine was already coded when I bought it.

With the M10 Monochrome you own a low light monster, you actually don't need a fast 28mm lens. I own the f2.8 Elmarit and it is not only optically a stunning lens, but also absolutely sufficient for low light shots with the M10 M. Bokeh is not a big issue for a 28mm anyway, at least in most shooting situations. So why spending so much more money for the 28mm Lux if you can get a similar picture quality with the gorgeous small Elmarit.
jaapv Posted December 23, 2020 Share #25 Posted December 23, 2020 The difference between these lenses is more a question of taste and preference than of quality, especially on a monochrome bosy.

However , I have the older 28 Elmarit v4... you probably refer to the asph? The v4 renders sooo nice in my opinion. Actually had the asph, but sold it as I found it too ¨harsh¨ in its perfection. Part of my story is that I also prefer the v4 above my 28 cron asph v1... sorry, yes I do refer to the latest asph version. I don't find it overly harsh in its contrast, but indeed very sharp. My principle is- at least for the moment - to pair modern lenses with my M10 M and M10 P. I also shoot with the 50mm Apo Cron and I must say the results with the M10 M are one of a kind. Nonetheless I have read some reviewers stating that they prefer older lenses with their digital Leica equipment and modern lenses with film Leica in order to avoid pics looking too clinically and get the balance right. - Thanks btw for welcoming me on this forum. JoeLeica Posted December 24, 2020 Share #28 Posted December 24, 2020 Best at what? I've had: 28 Elmarit pre-asph, Elmarit ASPH v1, Cron V1 and V2, and Lux 28. The Summilux 28 has best rendering (IMO) but not very good handling lens. (Makes my M10 front heavy at 470 grams). The pre-asph 28 Elmarit renders smoothly, but it's the same size and weight as the Cron 28. The Cron ASPH v1 renders nicely and has best bang for the buck, but can develop wobbly front. Cron ASPH V2, perhaps has the best IQ, but at 3K it's very expensive for what you get. Now the Elmarit ASPH v1 is a great little lens. Tiny and light, very sharp, and affordable. It just doesn't isolate well as the 28 Crons.
Herr Barnack Posted December 25, 2020 Share #29 Posted December 25, 2020 (edited) @Kamyar - If you can live with a medium fast 28mm lens, the Elmarit-M 28mm f/2.8 ASPH #11677 is what I would recommend. I have this lens and have been quite pleased with it; it is small, light weight, affordable (compared to the 28mm Summicron and 28mm Summilux), is razor sharp, contrasty and an all-around outstanding lens. I would pick the 28mm Elmarit over any other offerings from Voigtlander, 7 Artisans, TT Artisan, Meyer-Optik, Kipon, etc. If the price of the 28mm Elmarit is problematic, my second choice would be the ZEISS Biogon T* 28mm f/2.8 ZM, which is an affordable but still high quality lens. JMHO. Edited December 25, 2020 by Herr Barnack

I have been looking for the chrome too but its impossible to find now. Can you tell us about your experience with the lens? Do you like it ? Do you use it ? Did you ever regret not going for the Cron ? Yup. I'm very happy to have this. I tried Corn. To me, the difference between the two is unbelievable. It has beauty and quality at the same time. It's definitely heavier than corn, but I think it's many times better. Micro contrast is unparalleled. Excellent sharpness and accuracy.

Herr Barnack Posted December 25, 2020 Share #36 Posted December 25, 2020 (edited) I just don't understand - why is replying to an older thread such a problem for you?? Are we not free to reply to a thread, regardless of its age? 77,803 forum members around the world and no one else is complaining. Moderators are not complaining. Andreas is not complaining... I do believe that when you receive advice, its nice in return to share you experience back with the world. But maybe I'm completely misreading the last few messages. who knows! Exactly. I tried to just state the facts, hoping the OP would draw his own conclusions. Didn’t think another member would completely miss the point.
