Petrus61  Did you try another CF or SD card; say 64?  Might check the manual concerning CF and SD cards.  I once had a similar issue with my S007 when I first got it.  Turned out the CF card was the issue.  r/ Mark

I use Sandisk SD in all my Leicas and never a problem - the camera works with a Sandisk SD card but as soon as I add the CF it goes no card / card error. The CF is new.

I am 99% sure the CF card was spot on the recommended parameters when purchased.

highly annoying

Petrus61,  I use Sandisk and Hoodman cards.  But, I have experienced card defects twice on a rare occasion with CF cards.  I sent in the "new" CF card to Sandisk and it turned out to be counterfeit. (It was bought new in Hong Kong at a camera store)  The second card was simply defective and replaced.  I always download my days shoot every day, sometimes twice depending on where I am shooting and weather.   I also stick to either 32 GB or 64 GB cards for cameras only because it forces me to download if I fill the card during the day. At least you have the SD card that works so you can test the camera.  If you can look inside the CF slot, check to see if any of the pins are bent or missing.   r/ Mark

@Petrus61 I know that CF cards can be picky and sometimes a small problem with the card will cause issues in the camera.  I've had CF cards that took the first 10-20 shots perfectly, and then the S007 locked up on a shot.  After removing the CF card, all was fine.  So, it could be a problem in the CF card itself.

Also, try reformatting the card on a computer and then put in to see if it is recognized so you can format it in the S3.

Best if you could find another CF card to try as well...

Hope it is the card!

David.

Well - all good with the SD card but can see what I think is a bent pin at 90 degrees in the CF slot even  which would explain why the card was sitting correctly but ine pin was not in..... so will be replaced when things back to normal 👍

The few images I have taken appear Almost film like - very happy

When I just got my 007 last year, I wanted to try CF and got a batch of Lexar ones off eBay, it took a month to arrive from China, and the 2x price vs equivalent SD was a good one.  Upon shooting one card I found that many images were corrupted.  Now this batch is laying idle until I can verify it in some way...  Overall no real need to use CF.  Pity it makes the S a one card camera, but that's OK.

I bought 6 Sanddisk CF cards and run them in tandem with my SD cards in the S007.  I still like to have a dual backup.  I did have one card that caused me problems, but after reformatting the card in the computer (iMac) it has worked fine ever since.

That is one of the things I liked to much about the SL / S007 combination - the dual cards for backups during shooting, the four button layout the same, (with firmware updates) the S007 now operates like the SL in 'A' mode where the top dial adjusts EV +/- based on metered exposure, the built in GPS and the adapter of S lenses to SL.

I am truly excited about the new features of the SL2, but I really do not like the fact that it lost the GPS and the four buttons.  While fine by themselves, it now distances the SL from the S series to work together.

Roundabout for this topic, but background for why I spent on the best CF cards I could get and made sure I could get them working.

Have you tried CF cards from a different source? Counterfeit/re-labelled memory cards are a known issue, and the provenance of your cards does not inspire confidence.
