Exactly my experience, (lack of) appreciation turned into liking the camera, and a perfect companion to the CL. BTW, there ARE third-party batteries. ;)

I’m about to share my love here very soon!

Although I’m truly addicted to the Leica M world (since 1988) I was attracted by the Leica T concept since its first appearance in 2014. So I followed the T/TL system since then but I always wanted some new M camera or some M lens more than an additional APS-C system.

Now with the rumored discontinuing of the TL/TL2 I decided to acquire a new TL2 and an APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL 60mm. Fortunately I got both items with a 30% special easter deduction. The 90mm full frame equivalent and the macro capabilities makes the 60mm lens the most useful addition to my M gear – at least from my perspective. 😉

A truly fantastic lens! Certainly as good as the amazing R 100 APO.

I'm resisting because of price and because if I ever do go full frame it cuts down mps in the one place I want them most: macro. So, if I yield to temptation, it will be the Sigma 70 macro. But I envy you!

Such a beautiful looking pair - enjoy!  I love my CL but absolutely appreciate the look and feel of the TL.  Happy shooting.

May the pixel peepers stay unsatisfied with the technical not so state-of-the-art specs of the TL2 but the UI is peerless and there is no second brand that delivers—or at least tries to deliver—such a combination of no-frills design and high quality manufacturing (perhaps Hasselblad does). To cut a long story short: see the title of this thread. 😊

Because gear porn is so easy to set up: Leica TL2,  M-Adapter L, MS Optics Apoqualia II 2/28 Micro-Gauss No. 018:

@ruskkyle @Gregm61 Thanks! It’s indeed very cool-looking combo but the lens itself is more a fun lens when it comes to IQ. Image sharpness is only available in the middle of the frame even at f5.6 – and even with 1.5 crop factor. I would only recommend it for BW and analogue photography where you want »dreamy edges«.

I also find it soft in the corners with field curvature very much present.

Seems better at human distances rather than infinity and a bit sharper 1/3 of a frame out from center.

But it is very pocketable and gives that desirable ~40mm view.

Biggest downside is the TL2 focus peaking is so difficult to see on the LCD.

I bought a second hand Leica T for £300. Amazingly cheap.

I also love the user interface, and the pure feel and design of the thing. I also have a CL with 18-56 and 55-135 and 23 lenses, and an M adapter with 90 Apo ASPH Summicron left over from my M setup.

I also wrote a blog post on it which I think you'll find interesting: Leica T - crazy cheap, any good?

I've been toying with getting a TL2 for the updated sensor, software etc. This thread has rekindled that interest. Hmmmmm....

@Tobers Thanks for sharing your blog post. Nice read!

As you wrote, speed, features and resolution could be worth an T to TL2 upgrade. But it seems there are not so many used TL2 bodies around and they are still quite pricy too—compared to that TL2 Starter Bundle price of £1,800.00.

I’m thinking about buying a used 23mm Summicron to have a least two AF lenses for my TL2. Does it simply what it should do or do you have different thoughts?

I fell for the TL2 these days (a really good offer) after using the CL for a couple of years, planning to use them side by side. We'll see. I like the Summicron TL, light-weight, ultra-portable, good quality. The 35 mm Summilux-TL is sharper (or maybe the autofocus is more reliable) - an expensive and heavy lens though.  For me the Summilux is the best TL lens, together with the 55-135 mm TL and the 60 mm Macro TL. The 11-23 mm TL is no slouch either.

To share some TL2 love. 😊

TL2 + APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL 60mm, ISO 100, 1:1 Crop
— f2.8, 1/40 Sec. (Exposure LR -0.33)
— f.8.0, 1/6 Sec.

For the full frame head over to the T/TL/TL2 image thread.

I guess watches are another well known sujet for macro. Just a quick snap.
TL2 + APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL 60mm, ISO 100,  f11, 1/6 Sec.

First conclusion after a few days with the TL2: For the M lenses I’ll definitely stick to M bodies. ☺️ But TL2 with TL lens is great fun.
Next up: portrait with face recognition and Elmarit-TL 60mm (due to its 90mm full frame equivalent).
