Pebble Beach - '13. I was so enthralled by the new Bentley ISR on it's US introduction, that I completely failed to take notice of my more famous Landsmann while taking this photo. Later, when Justin Bell was finished interviewing him, I chatted with 'Ahrnold' in our native tongue for a while, when he said he was ready to buy the damned thing on the spot had it not been a right-hand drive.

Quite often the cars in the paddock on vintage race weekends would be every bit as interesting as those on the track........how I miss those days.

Unearthed this image of a very interesting and important Ferrari - A '57 250 GT pininfarina Spider,  presented to newl;y signed team F-1 driver Peter Collins by Enzo himself. A total of 40 250 GT Spiders were produced over several years, including 4 prototypes, with this car the first prototype. It contained several custom features, including the first discbrake setup on any Ferrari, and the famous driver's side door 'cut-out', to enable the tall Collins to drive the car more comfortably. Collins 're-gifted the car to his new bride later the same year as a wedding present, for her to use as a daily driver and to serve as their means of transport to some of the nearby European Grands Prix.

If this line-up of Alfa-Romeo treasures doesn't raise your pulse rate and blood pressure, there may not be any hope for you.

From left to right, a TZ1, a TZ2 and the delectable, sublime Tipo 33 Stradale.........all one very fortunate & discerning ollector's pride & joy.

John -

Consider my blood stirred.  For three years running Alfa brought a Tipo 33 to the NY International Auto Sow, along with spokes models that fit their specifications of being brunette and wearing black dresses (you can see them in the background of the GTZ photo and the background of the 3rd Tipo 33 photo.  I doesn't matter how often I see these cars - I always shoot them

Anything related to the immortal series of Mercedes W196 race cars elevates my motor mania to an unhealthy level. I mean, just look at it, 8 cylinders in-line, naturally aspirated, 2.5 liter displacement, desmodromic valve actuation, central power take-off, fuel injection, five-speed transmission, unprecedented drivability, power and torque......all in 1954 !!

Ferrari 250 GT, rebodied by Piero Drogo and brought up to GTO specs according to the owner's wishes, and fresh out of a southern California marque specialist's restoration shop. I think one of the great mysteries of the collector car hobby is the seeming lack of of enthusiasm and interest in the products of this Modena-based coachbuilder.

I'll never understand why this Ferrari model, the much underappreciated and undervalued 365 GTC / 4 isn't and never has been held in higher regard by the collector market.

Mechanically, it's practically identical to the 'Daytona' under its Pininfarina skin, same chassis, same engine ( albeit slightly detuned to make it more of a true long-distance GT ), rides a whole lot smoother than the truck-like pure two-seater Daytona, and even has power steering, and in my opinion is a Hell of a lot more better looking & elegant than the more expensive & sought after Daytona..

De Gustibus..... and all that.
