John Z. Goriup Posted July 29, 2020 Share #741 Posted July 29, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Legendary Classics are a common sight at pretty much all venues during 'Car Week' and offer a wonderful opportunity to see cars that you normally either never see or have to visit museums and private collections to catch a glimpse of them. Advertisement Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Hi John Z. Goriup, Take a look here Motor Mania. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John Z. Goriup Posted July 29, 2020 Share #742 Posted July 29, 2020 In the run-up to the Sunday Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, on Thursday of Car week those Concours entrants who choose to partake in the Pebble Tour take off in the morning for a 55 mile drive on California Highway 1 and famous 17-Mile drive, then stop for a catered lunch in Carmel-by-the-Sea so people may view the cars without having to buy tickets for Sunday's Concours. More than half the field usually take part in the drive, the purpose of which is to earn the extra 5 points for participating, to break ties with cars that did not drive the Tour. Shown is one of the most historic Testa Rossas, a 250 Tr 59/60, Ser#. 0774, the actual *outright winner of the '60 24 hours of Lemans, Olivier Gendebien & Paul Frere driving. The sound of the unmuffled V-12 reverbarating between the buildings is sufficient reason to attend. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! John Z. Goriup Posted July 29, 2020 Share #743 Posted July 29, 2020 One of the most historic and successful Formula 1 cars ever.................Michael Schumacher's world-championship winning F2002 triple winner, never finishing lower than 2nd place during the season. For an enthusiast, it just doesn't get better than this. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! John Z. Goriup Posted July 29, 2020 Share #744 Posted July 29, 2020 How often does one get the opportunity to stroll past an LM 250, and then have the attendant offer to raise the rear section so you can admire, study and photograph the 'inner sanctum'. Simply spectacular ! JZG Welcome, dear visitor! John Z. Goriup Posted July 29, 2020 Share #745 Posted July 29, 2020 On Tuesday, downtown Carmel closes all streets and the delightful, free 'Cars-0n-the-Avenue' low-profile Concours takes centerstage for the day. Invariably, people think the merchants must really hate this, but you couldn't be more wrong. The men & their friends spend their time immersing themselves in a great Concours, the restaurants are full all day long, and the wives and daughters are free to shop and usually spend much more money than they tell you they'll spend as the price for coming along and letting you indulge yourself. Last time I attended more than 10,000 p;eople were there. The best part is early in the morning , around sunrise, steaming cappuccino in hand, watching & listening to the 250 or so cars staging into their assigned spaces. A 365 GTB' Daytona 'Competizione' - one of only 15 such models made. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted July 31, 2020 Share #749 Posted July 31, 2020 John is an impossible act to follow, but let's keep it going with this one: In the Southward Car Museum, NZ, called the Red Bug. It looks like it was made by the Flexible Flyer Sled Company. Welcome, dear visitor! pattyfrank Posted August 4, 2020 Author Share #752 Posted August 4, 2020 (edited) Joining in expressing disappointment that the annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance was cancelled this year. To wit, offering a casual shot of an honored resident at Up the Creek, a 1928 Terrot. The machine was proudly shown in the Vintage French Motorcycle Display at Pebble Beach in 2013. The unrestored, original Terrot was discovered in a barn at Chateau Dubec in Pont l’Eveque, Normandy, France. A month later it was purchased along with 11 other vintage motorcycles at auction by phone and imported to the U.S. It is a most cherished remaining machine from the adventure. Welcome, dear visitor! pattyfrank Posted August 5, 2020 Author Share #758 Posted August 5, 2020 Apologies. Turns out I only had photos of the Terrot taken long ago with one of those 'other' brands so included a Leica photo of my monitor so you can see the Terrot on the green at Pebble Beach. The Terrot is now covered with tarps while it's porch home is being painted, but a quick shot included. Promise more another time. Cheers. Welcome, dear visitor!
