Have you ever tried to get back into a Mercedes Gullwing when other cars on the left and right have later on occupied the marked parking lots? This is less a sports car than a fighter plane without wings, constructed at the time when it was forbidden to build airplanes in Germany after WWII. A former neighbor was the proud owner of a Gullwing. But he always had to push it in and out of his standardized garage with personal muscle strength🙂. • Leica M 8.2 • 'cron 28 • Mercedes-Benz Museum Stuttgart • April 2010, •

Graham, the color of the Gullwing is actually PORSCHE 'Blutorange', or 'Tangerine', as the color was cxalled in English-speaking countries. The owner, a good friend of mine, has all his 'toys' painted in that color because he's extremely fond of it & his first noteworthy 'collector car' was a blutorange Porsche RS Lightweight. I was going to post the new image below in the "Something beginning with P" thread, but on second thought, it already contains too many Porsche photos, consequently here's a photo of the gullwing's owners newest acquisition, a new 918 Porsche, custom ordered in the same Tangerine color as the gullwing. The slight difference in color tone is mainly due to my post-processing and the fact that the gullwing was shot ouside on an overcast day, whereas the 918 was shot in his shop under fluorescent lights. In my opinion, the color looks a lot better on the 918 than on the gullwing, which in my view has always been more of a 'gentlemen's Express' type of GT , which, I submit, probably looks better in a more subtle metallic or plain color rather than the 'look at me orange' of an outright track-oriented 'supercar'( Lord, how I hate that term ) like the 918. John Z. Goriup Posted June 9, 2020 Share #677 Posted June 9, 2020 Just what's needed when one twin-supercharged big-ass Ford 4.6 liter DOHC 32-valve V8 isn't enough for the job............nicely done - but Jeez; why ?? The owner / builder's biggest complaint - at idle, with no throttle at all, the damned thing runs at about 30 mph. SL / 24-90 V.E. JZG Welcome, dear visitor!
