Honestly I'm not sure why someone feels the need for a fast ultra wide lens. The lens is not used for portraits mostly landscapes and architecture including cathedrals and buildings when I travel.  Since its not used for portrait nor does a ultra wide angle have a shallow depth of field a solid cheaper slower lens suffices.  After using both I now use a slower f3.5 and even a f4 is good. Also because the lens is UWA the photo can be shot at a slower shutter speed; 1/20 and with a camera that has IS even slower. I shot with a Nikon Z6 and 21/3.5 at 1/13 or even 1/10 with no issues.

So nobody needs a 21mm super fast lens?

I used a 21/3.4 SEM in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre [1] and the combination of very low light plus many moving people made me wish I could lower the aperture rather than cranking the ISO. With an ultrawide it's more functional to do that in mixed situations because the DoF won't be razor-thin.

[1] also managed to make my M10 holy by touching it to the Stone of Anointing, so I've got that going for me!

So somehow this thread and doing some research has given me some major gas on this lens..... My widest lens now is the elmar 24mm, love the lens sharp, portable, great colors, but somehow wished it was 2.0 :)

So now voigtlander comes with this option, and is giving me some major GAS are the current owners happy with the lens???? :)

@Robert Blanko I saw you posted some images using the sony, how is corner sharpness a lot of smearing? Any color cast issues?

Thanks!

Hi Malabito,

Yes, I indeed took the first series of photos with my Sony A7Rii, as I did not have my M10 with me. I did not see color cast or smearing edges and was thus positively surprised. Otherwise, one would see the issue already in the photos I posted. For instance the Zeiss ZM 18 is worse in said respect on the Sony.

My voigtlander 21mm f1.4  nokton arrived today along with the voigtlander 21/25 mm metal viewfinder from robert white in the uk who i also bought my 35mm f1.4 distagon from.

The lens is beautifully engineered and about the same size as the distagon but slightly heavier.

In rangefinder land it means i have 2 big lenses but  i needed the speed and  both provide   realistic and affordable options for me to get modern lenses in these focal lengths.

As soon as it stops raining i will get out there and try it out!

Thanks sound promising!

Now to find where to get the lens in Europe for a  reasonable price.

Camera quest in USA has it for 1050 usd and I can not find it for lower than 1300 euros in Europe, that's a 500 usd price difference. Is crazy.

It's not good, but there is worst. This lens in Amazon Mexico, with the current exchange usd/pesos, it costs the equivalent of $2,450 USD 😱

But on the other side, I recently bought a TT 35/1.4 in Amazon Prime, and it has the same exact price of BH ($450) ... plus $20 shipping 😃

When I paid, it didn't tell me nothing about taxes or later fees, so finger crossed.

Dennis,

Did you bought the TT 35mm via Amazon Mexico? I wonder how long it took to arrive and if at the end there was zero taxes to pay, that's very good luck!

From a phone, please forgive typos.

Yes I bought it. In Amazon it says delivery estimated Nov 30 - Dic 20. But tracking on UPS it says Oct 30 😁 Crossed fingers, for both delivery and taxes.

What If... I have paid only for the lens (same US price, $450) and between taxes and shipping from China via UPS, I paid only $20. That would be awesome.

I'm willing to pay up to 25% in taxes, this is my worst case scenario. And usually is what it happens if I buy in BH for example. They ship to Mexico in three days and once the DHL knocks my door, with one hand they give me the box, with the other they charge me 20-25% 🤣

I'll let you know what happens with the already "mighty" TT 35/1.4 .. stay tuned.

It will be my second 35 ever, I'm very happ

Oh I thought you already got it. You said you are willing to pay 25%, what if it is more? You will lose what you paid 🤔🤔🤔...

That’s why I have a shipping service with a US address so I can get my package there, they charge me a fixed 16% of “import duties” regardless of the amount I paid for my items to get it here.

It should be less, but for sure, no more than this. Maybe this Saturday, the lens will arrive, and I'll let you know. Crossed fingers.

Yes, shipping to a US address is cheaper, I know, but I live in Mexico, and I can't avoid customs taxes. Or I travel to the US, and I purchase in person (always the best option) or ask some US friends/colleagues to bring me my stuff when they arrive in Mexico. But otherwise, there is no legal way to import items without paying full taxes.

For example, In B&H, a CV 35/1.2 costs $1,050. If you buy it in Mexico, it costs about $2,400, which is absurd. But for the stuff I really need, and I can't find in Mexico stores and online, I'm willing to pay the "regular" 20-25% taxes. It's happened twice. It's still cheaper than Mexico's price. If I order the 35/1.2 tomorrow, I would probably pay $1,400 between taxes and shipping. It's worst than the US but much better than MX, do you know what I mean?
Or you have a smart way to avoid taxes when import to Mexico. If so, please share it. 😬

Yes, they are legal way to import stuff without paying massive taxes, (I pay 16%) but this is not the forum to discuss that.
