BernardC Posted March 16, 2020 Share #21 Posted March 16, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I doubt that any AF system will be accurate enough for medium format shooters. That's not because MF is harder to focus (although it is harder to focus fast), but because prints are generally larger, and photographers are more exacting. Frankly, I found the Fuji to be one of the worse AF experiences. It was a combination of a low-res viewfinder, lenses with no focus feel, and an AF system that had the attention span of a squirrel (Look here! No here! How about here!?). I'm sure all of those suggested pictures would have had perfectly sharp ears, or noses, or backgrounds, or something (maybe a housefly went by and that's why it went to minimum focus and stayed there for a long time). That's not really a good match with the reasons why I use medium format. That's not to say that others are doing something wrong if they rely on AF in medium format, it's something that doesn't work for me. 1
Advertisement Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 Hi BernardC, Take a look here S3 AF System...PDAF ? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
davidmknoble Posted March 16, 2020 Share #22 Posted March 16, 2020 The other issue we all have is wafer thin sensors that are perfectly flat. Perfect focus is much more difficult with all types of digital as a result, especially when adding human error in for each different user. Film was / is still easier to nail focus because of the depth. Clearly too as some have said, it depends on use of the system for a specific type of photography. setuporg Posted April 8, 2021 Share #25 Posted April 8, 2021 I was researching S focus and found this thread from last year. I wonder if @BernardC will update his opinion with the advent of GFX100S, in addition to the Leica S100 lens called 100S in this thread:)

That's unlikely to happen for a while.
