Why did I choose the 46mm instead? clearance! and it works, and yes, 49mm is the correct size for the filter/lens rim, but you end with a larger diameter cap. I believe it still clears with the lims hood, but the 46mm it's indeed easier to pull out Edited February 23, 2021 by nwphil
Advertisement Posted February 23, 2021 Posted February 23, 2021 Hi nwphil, Take a look here LIM'S has a Q2 hood!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gteague Posted February 23, 2021 Share #82 Posted February 23, 2021 (edited) aha! finally got it. that's clever taking advantage of the design like that! i'm not normally so slow, but as the brits so colorfully put it, we're having a spot of bother here in texas and i haven't had much sleep the last week. /guy Edited February 23, 2021 by gteague
iRandom Posted February 23, 2021 Share #83 Posted February 23, 2021 I used a Breakthrough Photography 49mm center-pinch lenscap with the Lim's hood since I preferred the look compared to the cheaper alternatives. The BT cap has a strong spring in it so it may make sense to go for the 46mm instead (assuming it springs out enough to grip just shy of 49mm).

gteague Posted February 27, 2021 Share #85 Posted February 27, 2021 i got the two 49mm caps i ordered the other day and now i can see why you guys use a 46mm one. both fit, but you have to put them in with the pinchers on the diagonal and there's barely enough room for your fingers. it's not a big problem because i usually take off the cap once and leave it off until i put the camera away again, but the 46mm one should arrive next week. /guy

Maybe it fits on the Q, not so well on the Q2, as someone already said, and for sure not on the Q2M I will fix the stop so it squares properly with the lens, just like the Leica. As it is goes over what should be the stopping point. Obviously shaddy manufacturing and quality control. I am stuck with mine, but do yourself a favor and buy the cheap round ones on EBay. ...and btw, their costumer service is rude and somewhat of a joke - they will not stand behind their product Mine arrived today and while it took a bit to give it the final half turn it fit perfectly on my Q2 Welcome, dear visitor! Nothing at all to be brave about it was clear it was turning on the threads still just snugging up so it doesn't come loose. The original hood does the same when putting it on in fact lots of things these days use this thread snugging method its all very normal

Or like an M 35mm Summilux hood with the little cut-out that serves no purpose on the Q/Q2 that I can see - a nod to nostalgia - good for them. What is good about it: - Fits perfectly and screws on to line up exactly on the same threads as stock hood. - same depth as stock hood, so same protection for the lens for non-clear-filter shooters - has a larger opening which makes adjusting a polarizer easier - that's probably the main upside - also the larger opening makes using a 49mm squeeze lens cap easier - looks great as would be expected from LIM's - light weight aluminum too - still fits in the Leica neoprene case and Ettas pouch - maybe even better in the Ettas than with the stock hood and cap. The bad: - costs more than the Leica hood - wow - surprising! - can't use Q2 size hood caps - need to use the 49mm cap - so I'm a little torn about setting my Match Tech rubber hood aside Have not had an opportunity to compare the shading effectiveness to the stock hood, but I like it and should be handy when using a polarizer.http://limsdesign.com/product/detail.html?product_no=201&cate_no=12&display_group=1 it seems I only discovered this LIM'S hood, which seems very well done, after two years I am using my Q2. I don't find it available anywhere, neither stores nor online. Any hints on where I could find one? Thank you very much.
TomBC Posted January 30, 2022 Share #100 Posted January 30, 2022 also, did any of you try the MostTap hood? It seems a copy of the Overgaard one, I couldn't judge its quality from the pics only so I'm looking for someone who bought it / used it, to know how it fits.
