ianman Posted February 19, 2020 Share #41 Posted February 19, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) The filter may have become cross threaded. Have you tried to get it properly seated within it's thread before trying to unscrew it?

Reini Posted February 19, 2020 Share #42 Posted February 19, 2020 Heat is of no use if the threads are bent and wedged.
250swb Posted February 19, 2020 Share #43 Posted February 19, 2020 1 hour ago, Harpomatic said: The wrench allows me to just hold onto the filter ring and the other wrench on the filter itself, counter-rotating. A filter wrench is ok for mildly stuck filters that aren't distorted. As with a lot of stuck filters the photographer soon learns that its gripping the filter hard that keeps it stuck because it distorts the filter ring, take a breather and try again and turn with minimal gentle force and the filter will often come straight off like magic. So all the filter wrench does is grip the filter rim hard, distorts the rim and threads even more, and it stays stuck. 1
pedaes Posted February 19, 2020 Share #44 Posted February 19, 2020 Often find a bit of pressure toward the lens helps. Counter-intuitive I know.
Reini Posted February 19, 2020 Share #45 Posted February 19, 2020 Before turning, try to bend the dent outwards with pliers. Everything else is pointless.

Harpomatic Posted February 19, 2020 Author Share #48 Posted February 19, 2020 Thanks guys. I already tried with pliers very lightly, so the filter is now slightly less bent. But it wasn’t that much out of shape before, that’s why I noticed only when trying to unscrew the filter!. In any case, I’m very careful with threading the filter in properly, if it doesn’t go in like butter I go back and restart, and never tighten it hard to avoid any binding! Here are a few pics attached. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Unfortunately I have no hair dryer here! 😂 works almost every time. borrow one from the hot chick next door. you might hit 2 jackpots at once. Reini Posted February 19, 2020 Share #51 Posted February 19, 2020 Can it now be unscrewed after bending? If not bend a little outwards.

And I was able to salvage the filter too. 57 minutes ago, jaeger said: works almost every time. borrow one from the hot chick next door. you might hit 2 jackpots at once. ianman Posted February 19, 2020 Share #55 Posted February 19, 2020 It doesn't look as bad as I thought. I would suggest trying to reseat the thread by very gently tapping it either with a small pin hammer or something similar.
Harpomatic Posted February 19, 2020 Author Share #56 Posted February 19, 2020 (edited) Success! I followed 250swb’s advice about not gripping too hard with the wrench, and used an elastic band around the lens front to stop it from sliding inside the other wrench - it moved with a bit of effort. It then unscrewed reasonably well, no damage at all to the lens thread. But I won’t be able to use the filter again I guess! Thanks everybody for such a participation to the discussion and for your help! Flavio Edited February 19, 2020 by Harpomatic 3
