An R rangefinder model that takes film but also has a digital sensor and EVF. It must also take M lenses and TL/SL lenses and offer auto focus (including AF for non AF lenses with a moving sensor) or manual focus, have in body IS and be waterproof.

You can shoot film and digital at the same time. The sensor part should be a module that you can upgrade easily, like changing a focus screen. It must have 3 strap lugs, a thumb grip, a softee release button, optional body coverings and come in black paint over brass, black chrome or silver chrome and safari.

It should have the traditional Leica script, and a red dot with a little cover to slide over it and hide it when you want to.

All this in a body smaller and cheaper than a CL.

Any takers?

M10 body size with the addition of an attachment point above the viewfinder for a tiny evf, similar to the Ricoh 28 optical in size.   Less of a wart and viewfinder on the left makes for an easy transition from rangefinder to evf without lcd nose prints. This would require the ISO dial to be redesigned, side markings of ISO rather than top markings perhaps with a non lift dial similar to shutter speed. Advantage in ergonomics, beauty and function with evf and flash use simultaneously.

On the contrary. The rectangle is inefficient, it discards some of the lens output.

The main problem is that a rectangular sensor gives you a random crop of one pair of sides (how likely is it that your scene is 3x2?). With a circular sensor you never need to hold the camera sideways and you don’t need an artificial horizon (in one direction).

Circular sensor.

Getting prints framed is a real pain though.

My idea of a well designed Leica would be a (mechanical) M4 with a digital sensor, of 18~24 MPixels and no self timer (no selfies). Easy. Leica take note😉.

M factor body with removable sensor so it could also use film. A selection of sensors should be made available just as lenses are. Monochrome or colour, CCD or CMOS, circular or rectangular, etc.

Must be black paint and have lots of red logos on so I can stick black tape over them.

edit: Must also have a frameline illumination window!

Not really. Oval and circular frames have been made for centuries.

They are available, but I can never seem to find what I want for Fisheye shots. Most framers don't touch circular frames and can't cut the glass for them so availability for the most part is limited to off the shelf frames. If you can point me to someone who can make and ship (in the UK) bespoke circular frames that would be great.

I can't imagine it's that difficult to make a circular frame. In fact, I would think it's easier than rectangular or square... using machines anyway. A router, a trammel and a few bits if you want fancy moulding. Cut in 3 parts to avoid needing massive boards and reduce waste, glue up with some dowels. Anyway, I digress...  a quick search returned these people: https://www.ovalpictureframes.co.uk/ Their stock stuff looks quite ugly (IMO) but they seem open to bespoke work.

The link shows the problem - only two types. I would like a supplier of thin, black, circular (not oval) frames with ~2" border of archival 4mm card for a 16" diameter print - not easy especially as I will require shipping a complete frame with glass too.
