OK, RRS have suspended all shipments to UK due to Brexit...they are 'Hoping' to have a uk distributer soon...nevertheless, Knowing their quality and the fact they fit the rather odd FLM heads and QR arca brackets I use, I bit the bullet and ordered from Photospecialist in Germany ....job done !

Hi! did your order from photospecialist in Germany go to plan? I read some pretty bad reviews regarding orders not turning up and just general bad customer service. Interested in the RRS SL2/S L bracket..

I use the RRS L Bracket for both SL and SL2s cameras. I am not sure I will use them again however. Their shipping fees to Australia are $100 US which when added to the cart  made the item well over $400 AUD. Something I am seeing more of these days where the company are charging shipping fees over and above standard rates. Anyway when the courier which was also a reputable US service wasn't able to deliver my item on two occasions and I was at home for both. I contacted the courier people and there are instructions on my intercom unit that the driver didn't follow. I also included instructions on shipping info. After writing a long letter to RRS about their elite and expensive delivery service and the poor service I received, they refunded me $160 aud  the total cost of shipping.

Living in the US these costs and availability are interesting to hear.  I love the RSS bracket and used on on the SL and have it for my SL2-S and the S007/3.  What I like most about the SL2 version is that it goes the full length of the body on the bottom.  Setting it down it will not wobble.  It conforms to the bottom plate and I can replace batteries without removing.  It is bigger, but when traveling I just attach it.  I can always remove it to use the handgrip with extra battery.

That stinks they can be hard to get or expensive to ship….  I hope they come up with a better solution.

A bit late to the party, but B&H sells some RRS stuff...maybe the SL2 bracket as well. I am not sure. If they do, they tend to have extremely competitive shipping prices, as their volume is so huge. I order from them a lot here in Iceland because they still can send small packages via DHL for 25 or 30 dollars, where an individual might have to spend 100+ these days.

For my use the RRS L-plate is perfect in that the SL2 is almost always on tripod (their ballhead), mostly vertical in studio.
I don't think that I have ever removed it since first fitting it a few years ago.
I have had a number of the RRS brackets for different systems over several years. I'm not familiar with any other brands.
Buying from here in Australia there seemed to be a large leap in shipping cost buying direct. BHPhoto was a better option last time due to that.

I'll post some more pictures shortly. One drawback I should have mentioned above is that with none of the brackets you can open the upper port flap without setting back the bracket. A much higher bracket would be required for that, which almost certainly would collide with the (ugly, still don't understand why) extending strap lugs. This can be clearly seen in the pictures below.

The RRS L Bracket adjusted closest to camera has a cut out that fits around and level with the strap lug, while the end pieces of that cutout in contact with the side of the camera set the offset. There is clearance to use that strap lug still if wanted.  I don't. That end of the strap is fitted instead to the opposite (bottom) edge of baseplate.
The port cover is still accessible through the open centre of the vertical component. The offset from the cutout at the stop also provides that clearance. I don't use those ports, but I just checked.

I do not intend to use it as an 'L' bracket, just the base plate.

Side camera access is not a problem.

OK. Some people in the thread are interested in Baseplate and L Bracket, I think. Replying to two different posts myself.

If you haven't seen it, the RRS Baseplate (only) for the SL2 has the Arca Swiss attachment option, a cutout for access to battery compartment and release lever. which includes a stored Allen key matching attachment bolt size. That bolt aligns with marked centre (the existing tripod socket) and has its own tripod thread socket directly in line with that. It adds about 12 mm to the camera height and is extremely well made. It adds a strap slot option like the existing lug too.

The L bracket attachment I use almost always as I orient the camera vertically mostly in studio. It's also not offset. I have never removed it in any case, and it doesn't add much width to the body when fully retracted. I prefer it for holding the camera anyway when off the tripod. I hope that information is useful for some people.

Hi Ken.

Thats awfully high shipping cost, I got both mine from B&H plus some other items  and both of my RRS bottom plates were quite reasonable.

The first Plate was 100 USD plus some other stuff I bought from B&H photo, excluding the goods, total dispatch price was around 22 USD with DHL Express.

Ordered on Monday morning from Victoria Australia and the items where at my door on Friday same week.

I have been using B&H for a number of years and they have never let me down as yet.

Ken

I have almost always used RRS L brackets, but the RRS SL bracket base without the L side is just over the top expensive for what you get.

Instead I looked on Amazon and found the Exxy Omni Sr. Universal L-Bracket for Most DSLR Cameras (Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Sony) - All Metal Black Camera Hand Grip for Acra Swiss or Arca Swiss-Type Quick Releases. Cost About USD40. It has 3 adjustment screws all with built in adjustment finger loops for easy adjustment changes.

Noiw I will get a second since I like the design and ruggedness.
