Its shape and size identifies it as a Dreadnaught.  Probably a D18 or D28.  The letter indicates Dreadnaught, and generally the higher the number, the fancier and more expensive the model within the same family.  There are also 12 string versions of the "D,", such as D12-28.

Agree with Stuart, it's a dreadnaught.  Perhaps a custom sunburst Martin since there is no logo or art on the headstock.  I can't tell if there is any fancy inlay around the top.  Appears to be well used based on scratches below the lower left of the pick guard.  I zoomed in and can see a stamp through the sound hole but cannot read it.  Martins are almost always stamped on the back strip.  It might not indicate the model but should include the Martin logo.  Perhaps you can zoom in on the original file and read the logo.  I tried on the shot you posted but it does not have enough resolution.  

In any event, it's a great photo and I hope you enjoyed music.
