The drive to Artist's Palette, Death Valley National Park.  This was my first outing with the S1R and my first time to visit Death Valley, the park is massive at roughly 3.4 million acres, too much to cover in the the 2 days that I had.

S1R & TL35 f1.4 Summilux

My photo dealer's offered me a very lightly used TL35 f1.4 Summilux, no hood & no box, approx. US$1, 100- which I'm trying out. On the S1r it's equivalent to a 52mm lens, Jpeg image size is 10MB & RAW is 30MB. Initial results so far have exceeded my expectations.

An outstanding South African Grenache Blanc, followed by a Cornas, another of my favourite N Rhône wines.

Best,

Mike

30 mb raw is quite something... +1 for the (generally) excellent and (generally) small/light-weight T/CL-lenses.

LUMIX S1R & Canon EF 400mm f/4 IS II USM with 2X Canon III tele converter = equivalent to 800mm @ f8.

I found a mint condition 2nd hand 2X Canon converter & thought what the heck, let's see how it does. ....

Hand held & no issues with Single Point AF.

Thanks. How quick/responsive is the focus? Working mainly/only for static subjects? (I guess so, since S1R is not on the top when it comes to AF and moving subjects).

Did anyone see the Northrup review on the S1/R? They were not a fan.

They are entitled to their opinion, and that is all it is, an opinion.  They are huge fans of Sony, and I have a different opinion of Sony, but that doesn't mean my opinion is the gospel, and neither is theirs.

I'lll take a step back in answering your question-  I also have the Canon 1.4 X TC III, there's almost no lag in Single Point AF with this TC.

With the 2X TC focus is definitely a little slower. It tends to hunt a bit more. I found that using the distance limiter on the lens helps. As you say mainly for static subjects.

What really has impressed me is that there's almost no loss in image quality with this combination.

I'm still trying to master AF with moving subjects, not just with this camera (which is quite challenging), but this was also the case  in the past with my previous AF cameras Sony and Fuji.

I've been too used to manual focus; this one's manual focus shot with my Sony Alpha 850 & Leica 280mm APO Telyt.
