Thanks for the shout out re:5DmkII. It's a tough question for me if it's operationally appropriate with Leica R lenses over a 1Ds with manual focus 'screen(s)' installed. I very much hear you on the 'size matters' argument. I will be getting a dSLR and an M8 because of the size advantages it offers. I am into extremely diverse photographic fields and a Rangefinder just doesn't cut it for all of it. You are also so very right about subjects reacting badly to having a big dslr pointed at them. I'm big into available light people image making - a M8 can be overlooked as the powerful piece 'o'kit' that it is, a 5D or 1D will never ever ever be.

Richard - the 5D2 really is a brilliant camera. I can't tell you anything wrong with it. The ergonomics are great, image quality and high isos perfect, live view and hd video very useful and it has never let me down - also has long battery life.

It's just for me size matters, I travel around a lot and I don't really like zoom lenses so if I take the 5D2 and two-three lenses and a film body I already have a very big bag of gear to weigh me down. With the M8 I used to have, or the GF1/EP2 I use now I can slip a film body or two in my bag, and a couple of shared lenses and it still feels light. And using a smaller camera is less obtrusive I find than pointing a massive dslr in someones face.

Looked at the thraed again

Well done for starting it and your own great images Wilfredo

And there are too many excellent images on this thread to comment on

I started this thread in part to dispel the myth that the M8 was now obsolete simply because the M9 was introduced to the market. The M8 is proving that M cameras have a life span that continues even after the introduction of the next digital M.

Weather was nice so I had a chance to wash the car and set it in front of Frank Gehry's EMP for a few shots.

This area around Paul Allen's Experience Music Project (EMP) is a loading area where parking isn't allowed. The bar rail you see is part of the barrier that prevents people from hitting their heads against the building or damaging the building's skin at the sidewalk.

My car is a U.S.1998/European1997 CarreraS 993 with the turbo wide-body. Like the film M6/M7, these were the last of the air-cooled cars out of Zuffenhausen.
