Vise Posted January 26, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 26, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and I'm new to Leica world. Yesterday I received my first Leica, a Black Classic M6. I thought it was a "bargain" at first, but now, after checking It all around, I see a misaligned of the top plate. How serious do you think it is? Is it solvable? I have not yet contacted the seller, I wanted to ask you first and then my trusted repairer. I hope it is nothing serious... Before taking it, the seller told me that the shutter had been serviced a few months earlier Thanks! Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted January 26, 2020 Share #2 Posted January 26, 2020 Yeah, it is a bit skewed. It might be that somebody replaced the leatherette and that it blocks the plate from screwing down completely; in that case it should be asimple repair.
a.noctilux Posted January 26, 2020 Share #3 Posted January 26, 2020 Maybe the backdoor "right prong" is "faulty". To check that, open the door and have a look at the springed right prong if it's fully engaged, or not bent.
jaapv Posted January 26, 2020 Share #4 Posted January 26, 2020 In that case it would not fit at the bottom.
a.noctilux Posted January 26, 2020 Share #5 Posted January 26, 2020 The door is slanted at bottom, as I see, the door's bottom touches the base plate and gap at left. To be sure, I've just compared the picture here with my M6 back door. The gap on the left side " door to body" must be larger than that in this picture. The spring is in this left side, so maybe the spring and pin at left ... not fully engaged. To be checked.
Vise Posted January 27, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted January 27, 2020 Thank you so much for your reply I checked the "door" but it seems ok to me, I think I will send it to my trusted repairer... The hot shoe is silver, is it ok on the classic M6? I never see that before, only on TTL, my serial number is 19038XX
TomB_tx Posted January 27, 2020 Share #7 Posted January 27, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Your repairer should be able to correct this without problem - it looks like the top shell may have gotten very slightly "sprung" or twisted, but even zinc should be correctable. The black M6 I bought in 1985 has a black hotshoe, but many other black Leica models did have silver. Late production of M6 continued into the TTL production, so perhaps it had silver then.
