Recently I received some camera's and lenses from a friend. So I was wondering if it is possible to use the lenses that belong to the Pentax Spotmatic (with M42 thread) on a Leica R or a Leica M, with the focussing system functioning. Are there adapters?

Thanks, Lex

No, not if you want to retain infinity focus. On Pentax 42mm thread this requires 45.46mm but the Leica R bayonet is 47mm from the film plane so you will not get infinity focus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flange_focal_distance). On M yes but no RF coupling - see response below.

On Leica R, only for close-up photos with adapter 42mm to R (without glass).

On M mount camera depending on the body type with adapter 42mm to M :

 - no rangefinder focus coupling so scale focus

 - or liveview ( LV or EVF) on digital M

I use the Monochrom MM1 without liveview and other film Ms before with some SLR lenses + adapters to M .

My prefered is the Fish-Eye Super-Takumar 17mm with colored filters built-in, nothing like this in Leitz/Leica lenses.

Thanks for your explaining replies. I am mainly using Leica M film camera's, and occasionally a Leica R4 with the Macro-Elmarit 60mm. Without infinity and withour rf focussing it doesn't make much sense to me to try to use the M42 lenses. So those M42 lenses won't be used then.

Thanks, Lex

Two questions:
1. If you adapt the M42 lens to M39 (LTM) and with another adapter the M39 (LTM) combo to M, would the RF work and would you retain infinity?
2. Is there someone who adapts M42 lenses to Leica M RF with coupling? If so, who/where?

Thanks.
