andybarton Posted August 6, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been fighting this one for years, and have finally decided that I should have taken it in black and white. Advertisement Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Lyme Regis. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hiphop Posted August 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 6, 2007 I don't know which one I prefer. IMHO both are quite nice. Pierre-Olivier
cocker Posted August 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 6, 2007 Andy - I think you are right. It's OK in Colour but much better in monochrome
stuny Posted August 6, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 6, 2007 Andy - Very dramatic in B&W, and just what it needed, especially with the roiling sky and sea.
johnwolf Posted August 6, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 6, 2007 Andy, definitely more striking in BW. The mast on the right is also stronger and a good compositional element that is somewhat lost in the color verison. John
azzo Posted August 6, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 6, 2007 It's about time you've realised that ! Superb b&w..IMHO. Azzo
Sandokan Posted August 7, 2007 Share #7 Posted August 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry - I like the bottom half in colour, where the rust on the sea wall is echoed in the netting. I saw it scrolling down, and it makes a great long this print. the top half though, is better in B&W for the reasons the others give.
elansprint72 Posted August 8, 2007 Share #8 Posted August 8, 2007 That colour; it'll never catch on.
Italocam Posted August 9, 2007 Share #9 Posted August 9, 2007 Greyscale rules! Is it oversharpened or are my old eyes tired?Italo C.
andybarton Posted August 9, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted August 9, 2007 It's had minor sharpening, but not too much. It's probably the processing that I have had to do to the image to get it this far.
Rolo Posted August 9, 2007 Share #11 Posted August 9, 2007 Agree, it doesn't seem to need any more sharpening. Can't decide whether the colour is as good as the B&W. I think the B&W has it IMO. Rolo
andybarton Posted August 10, 2007 Author Share #12 Posted August 10, 2007 Even though this is a tiff scan, I used Lightroom to pull out the red/orange net, something I couldn't do before. This was my first effort, from three years ago. Somewhere between the two would do - it's amazing how much more control one has, with modern software. chouhsin Posted August 10, 2007 Share #13 Posted August 10, 2007 Definitly B&W! And it's as usual a great photo of Andy. Hsin
carylwithay Posted August 10, 2007 Share #14 Posted August 10, 2007 I really like the colors in that net. The sky is beautiful too. The buildings do bleach out a bit. Caryl
