I use Leica's neoprene case because it's barely larger than the camera itself:

It's good for protecting against scratches and such, but not good for reducing shock. If your rucksack has an internal frame, then you probably don't have to worry about that.

If you would benefit from a pouch you can carry on a strap, and remove the strap to throw it in a backpack if desired, I can heartily recommend the Billingham 72.
I carried one across my shoulder for 3 weeks on a recent trip to Japan, carrying an MP+28 Elmarit.
Fantastic protection, easy access, did not allow any water in despite being soaked in pouring rain. Strap is removable, and very comfortable in use.
I also carried a second body in a backpack, but for one camera only, I’d just take the 72, and use a backpack for other items.
In fact that’s exactly what I’ll be doing on my next trip!

I have the Billingham Digital and it is the most used of my 3 Billinghams ( small medium big). It’s extremely lightweight and I find it great in all kinds of situations because it doesn't come across as a typical camerabag. You can carry a bit more than just the camera in it, up to three lenses or two bodies with lenses, a wallet and an iphone in the front

I use this Domke pouch (the one on the left) for my M9 with 35mm Summicron or my M6/MP with same lens. The one on the right carries spare lenses, filters film etc.

I used to use it for my X100T before I got my M9.

X100T is slightly smaller than the M9 and M6 so I only put the camera and spare battery/sd card in.

Is this the Domke F902 pouch do you recall?

F901 fits my M9 to a treat. M6 is smaller so will be OK. I like that I can have it on my belt without it being in the way.

Any suggestions for a small pouch to put my M6 in with Nokton 35mm 1.4?  Was wondering about a Billingham Avea pouch.

Ideally want something I can put it in to throw in a small rucksack.

My options are either a wrap 40 by 40 cm velcro,   or the Leica Neoprene pouch, or, mostly used:   An original soft Hasselblad leather lens pouch. Preferably for a 40 mm Distagon. See ebay.
