My M 24 Elmarit-asph has a sweet spot at f5.6, although it is still pretty sharp at 2.8.  So here's a shot using the SL2 and this lens to drive detail down to the pixel level:

and here's the 100% crop near the center (edges are fine, too):

For comparison, here's the same portion of the scene, from the same vantage point, taken with the 35 SL-SC a week or two ago:

edit:  Forgot to say that the second crop is from an image taken with my S1R.  Didn't have the SL2 at that time.

Would you have 100% crops from edges or corners? Just curious.

Of course, but I need to improve a few things to make this a really complete  test.  The light goes flat on the right side as the neighborhood curves around a hill, but here's the left side:

So the older lens shows some weakness in the outer third of the frame, compared with the 35 or with the center.  To do this properly I need to take both lenses out and move the sun around to the right 10-20 degrees.  There's definitely information from this lens across the frame at the 4.5 micron pixel pitch, as there are some artifacts on the tile roofs well to the right and left.

Thanks Scott, I see the shadows are more open with the (older) elmarit, however the camera may be a factor here, can you comment on this?   What do you see from the dng's?

I've been tempted by both the 21 and 24 elmarit, great lenses.

M-lenses on my SL2 becomes for me a difficult choice if we step in to the 35mm or 50mm range.

I have chosen the APO SL 35mm and M SEM 21mm as prime lenses for now. I have difficulties to decide if I want to keep the 24-90 or sell it in favour for a APO M 50mm/M Lux 50mm and build up a 21-35-50 and later an APO M or APO SL 90mm prime lens kit, as I used to have with my M9/M10 time.

A 24-90 is a beautiful lens but heavy, which becomes for me an issue if I use it as a walk-around lens, and actually never missed it with the M-setup.... So asking is probably answering this part of the question... ;)

Would be grateful if they're experiences with the APO M 50mm that you can share with me. Is it in the same league as a APO SL 50mm an an SL2?

Thanks a lot!

I have read (and please don't ask where) that the SL 50 1.4  @ f1.4 is on a par with the 50 mm APO @ f2.  Most who have the SL 50 summicron rave about it as well.  Not sure that there is a "right" answer to your question!
