As I have decided my Christmas treat is going to be the 135 3.4 apo, that may be a test, we'll see when it arrives.😀

The Telyt 135 3.4 APO is a great lens. I haven't used mine very often but the results are amazing. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm keeping my two M10s and purchased an SL2. Very happy with both. The M-adapter for the SL allows me to use all my M primes. Now, I can reliably focus my Noctilux 50mm f0.95 lens with the SL2's excellent focus peaking.

Interesting thread. The "problem" with M is that there is nothing like it. I know this first-hand having sold and then buying again, the M240 3 times!

So yes, M cannot replace SL/2, but then SL can't replace M either.

To make things even more interesting, there is nothing like the Q2 either and nothing comes close to it (based on size/weight).

If you after happy with your M and the only issue is focussing, why not get a Q2 for situations that demand AF. I find that Q2 + M makes for a very nice combo. Enough resolution on the Q2 to cover upto 50mm.

I thought about it until I actually handled an SL2. It’s HUGE. I’d never take it anywhere.

Easily solved: get an S, with an S45mm and an S70mm say, carry them around in a huge bag, then SL2 becomes light and its primes puny and its zooms compact.

Is anyone on this forum considering selling or trading in their M10 for an SL2? The thought has crossed my mind because my 60 year old eyes aren't what they used to be. However, every time I handle my M-10P, I banish the thought. I used to have an SL but found it too heavy, especially with the 24-90 tacked on. Just curious if anyone else has had this momentary lapse of reason. Yes, Pink Floyd all the way.

I have bought and sold a SL, only to buy one again and I have lost count of how many times that I have thought of selling the second one. I have a M10P plus Monochrom and Q, there is also a Canon dslr. I find the Sl a bit heavy to hold with any lens now, I have wear and tear in my right hand and arm and just handling the camera a few times brings on a bit of discomfort. The 24-90 is a fine lens but makes the camera quite front heavy and even though I use a wide A&A sliding strap I find it hard to adjust the strap to stop the camera swinging around when `i am carrying it.

I have given up using the AF for moving subjects, it is so hit and miss, I get it right one moment and then the next, every shot is out of focus. I tend to use R lenses plus Noctilux-M F1 and 75mmm Summilux, the focus magnification is useful providing that your subject does not move. In certain lighting conditions , say evening light on a summer evening for instance the EVF is unusable , I cannot see a thing, if shooting a landscape I will guess the focus, set the aperture and use the level to take the shot. It generally comes out okay but you could drive a bus through the scene and the EVF would not pick it up. I bought the 90-280 second hand to try and get myself to use the system more but I have hardly used it. So there will be no SL2 for me, I may well sell the SL and lenses.

The M10P however is much easier to carry and use, my eyes are still okay , I use zone focussing a lot and never worry about the focus, if using fast lenses wide open I take multiple shots whilst leaning slightly in and out. I have a visoflex but rarely use it . The OVF allows me to see my subject in all weathers and light, I much prefer it to the EVF which is a bit like looking at a TV screen. In tricky light I can check that I have the right exposure and have not blown the highlights by taking test shots first.

The down side of the M10P is that from sleep it takes twice as long to wake up so that you have to keep remembering to wake it up before you need it, the battery too is poor, never set out with it not fully charged as from it showing 80% it can drop alarmingly especially in the cold.

Have you thought about trying a CL. ,I would like to try a CL, I have followed the CL part of this forum and it takes very good photos, you can mount M and R lenses on it and it has it's own AF lenses too. .Sadly I live a long way from a Leica dealer now and would like the chance of trying one out first.

Keep the M10P and try a CL !  Good luck and a Happy New Year.

No one likes a heavy camera to walk around with and the definition of what is heavy changes for everyone over time. I recently bought a peak design hand strap on a whim and added to the SL/SL2 - I can't recommend it highly enough - makes 'carrying the camera around so much easier than over the shoulder with a strap - even the 90-280 all of a sudden becomes easy to walk around with on camera for a couple of hours.

I couldn't agree more, the Peak Design strap system is great and makes carrying around the SL much more enjoyable. I bought the shoulder strap first and have one fitting on the righthand camera lug and the other on the tripod mount (have fitted it to the Gitzo quick mount), so the camera sits flat with the body whether being worn across the body, or just on the shoulder. I then bought the hand strap for when I wanted to walk around a particular area. I also like the way one can quickly remove the strap when using a tripod.
