NickTheo Posted November 25, 2019 Share #1 Posted November 25, 2019 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone - just got my SL2 on Thursday. Yesterday was putting it through the paces when the battery died and it shut off. I immediately swapped batts and now when I turn the power on the top LCD screen fully lights up for a few seconds, the red status light comes on for a beat, and then it just dies. If I hit any button on the camera the same thing happens - Top LCD comes on, then goes off. No response otherwise. I have about 4 batteries from my Q2 and it does this regardless of which battery I use or if the SD card is in the camera or not. I have tried taking my Leica L to M Mount Adapter off and just powering it up using the port cap but nothing seems to help. Is there some sort of reset hotkey I should know about like on an iPhone? Do I need to exchange this camera? Thanks in advance for any wisdom or advice. Edited November 25, 2019 by NickTheo
Advertisement Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Hi NickTheo, Take a look here Dead SL2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Tailwagger Posted November 25, 2019 Share #2 Posted November 25, 2019 I'd certainly contact the dealer about it. Electronics, when they fail, tend to fail early. I'd likely be insisting on a replacement.

jaapv Posted November 25, 2019 Share #4 Posted November 25, 2019 It shouldn't happen - but it remains an electronic device and early failure can occur. The only thing you could try is leaving out the battery overnight.
johnbuckley Posted November 25, 2019 Share #5 Posted November 25, 2019 So sorry. Fingers crossed Jaap’s technique works.

I've tried to change up anything variable like SD card, battery, lenses... Unless someone knows of some sort of forced reboot method I think this thing is DOA. ymc226 Posted November 25, 2019 Share #8 Posted November 25, 2019 My 2nd SL 601 was DOA but my dealer just switched it out. No worries. Will be upgrading to the SL 2 soon.
BernardC Posted November 25, 2019 Share #9 Posted November 25, 2019 Bring it back to your dealer, swap for a new one. Leica will be keen to have a look at the defective one, but that won't happen on your time (or dime).
