I have installed Fotos 2.0 and updated my Leica account password.  Fotos connects to my Q2 and I see the photos on my iPhone 6s, but when I try to take another photo I just see a message on the Q2 screen which says:  "Disconnect Wi-Fi in the camera?"  If I click "no" then I can't take any photos; if I click "yes" the camera disconnects from Fotos!

I deleted the Q2 profile from Fotos, then reinstalled it.  It pairs with the camera, but I still can't get passed the screen that says "Disconnect Wi-Fi in the camera?" so when paired with Fotos the camera basically doesn't work.

Is it me or is it the software?

It sounds like the WiFi in the camera wants to do one things and Fotos wants it to do another.  Go into the camera menu.  Turn WiFi off.  Make sure that Blue Tooth is ON, then start up Fotos and see if it pairs with the camera, bringing up the saved image icons, then try something that requires WiFi, like uploading an image, or going into remote to see what it sees.

I had this sort of problem when first getting the connection to my Lumix S1R to work, and it seems to have the same components as the Q2.  Once I got things set right in both phone and camera, the problem went away.

Thanks Scott . . . this maybe a stupid question but where in the Q2 menu can I turn wi-fi off?  When I try to connect to Fotos I see a message on the Q2 screen which says:  "Disconnect Wi-Fi in the camera?" and when I click Yes it just disconnects from Fotos.  I then pair again and the same thing happens.  I'm just going round in circles.  There doesn't appear to be any other screen in the menu to turn wi-fi off.

Remote control works when the camera is paired, but I still can't take photos by pressing the shutter release!  What's the point of that?

I've deleted and reinstalled Fotos.  I deleted the camera and installed it again.  Bluetooth is on.  This is such an awful piece of software I'm at the point where I just don't care anymore, apart from the challenge of trying to make it work.  Any further advice would be appreciated.

I'm really tempted to just walk into Leica Duke Street and say: hey, this is your camera and your software; now let's see YOU make it work!

I don't have a Q2, but I do have the manual.  There's a menu entry Leica FOTOS, which comes up in the favorites.  Under it are BlueTooth and WiFi controls.  I would guess you turn BT ON and WiFi OFF (so thjat Blue Tooth can decide when to turn it on), but you'll have to experiment.

Yes, tried that.  Under the FOTOS menu there are four items:

BLUETOOTH - which toggles between ON and OFF

REMOTE WAKE UP - which is greyed out when BLUETOOTH is OFF and gives the choice of ON or OFF when BLUETOOTH is ON

PAIR - which takes you to a screen to pair with Leica FOTOS.  The Q2 appears but there is no barcode and the screen just says PRESS SET TO ABORT

DELETE - which takes you to a screen to delete the iPhone.  I've tried deleting and starting again but that doesn't work

That's it.  There's nothing for wi-fi controls.  Leica make wonderful cameras - shame about the software!

One thing I do to get Fotos unstuck (in the past) is to go to the phone's list of wifi networks and make sure that it doesn't think it should be connected to the camera but is connected to your usual network for Internet content.  That may help when you have had multiple tries not work.

It was exactly the same with my Q2 yesterday after updating the Fotos App to 2.0 (Android) and I, too, got stuck right there.

I then deleted my existing Q2 profile from the Fotos App and created a new profile with the help of the QR-Code. That solved the problem and it has worked perfectly since then. I also read somewhere (I don't remember the thread), that formatting the SD-card solved the problem (I know it sounds strange).

P.S.: I first registered my camera via the Fotos App (creating a Leica-account), but I guess that isn't necessary.

Thanks, but how did you get the QR code on the Q2?  I can’t get it on my camera!  I’ve deleted the Q2 profile from FOTOS and reinstalled it;  I’ve deleted the FOTOS App and reinstalled it.  The camera pairs via Bluetooth but there’s no QR screen.

When paired I see the photos already on the Q2 and can access camera settings; I can also use the iPhone as a remote release.  The only thing I can’t do is take photos using the camera as normal - taking a photo using the shutter.

I just installed Leica PHOTO 2.0 Android,
Huawai Mate 30 Pro and Leica PHOTO 2.0 both in German language.

When i opend PHOTO my existent V1 Camera profile was gone and i had to pair the camera again:
Phones Bluetooth on, WIFI on, camera in pair mode and voilà, Q2 found and connected

When i tried to download JPG AND DNG or only DNG a page opend telling me to try for free the PHOTO PRO version,
downloading JPG worked just fine and probably faster than with V1 and a Samsaung galaxy 10+

All functions, remote control, settings and download of the non PRO version work flawless.

I fear that the problems descibed above are for the english version of Leica PHOTO 2.0 and that old settings are not cleared.

Thanks Chris . . . it does seem there are a lot of bugs that still need to be corrected.

I am not using the Pro version and can still download raw files, but I seldom do that.  My main reason for using Fotos is to have a larger view (on the iPhone screen) as the photo is taken, and that is what I cannot do with this latest version.  As with you, all other functions, remote control, camera settings etc, work.

As many others have commented, Leica makes good cameras but is completely out of its depth with software integration.  A bit like expecting Tesla to produce a petrol engine 🤣

That is strange stuff, can you do that with the PHOTO 2.0 Version?
if i try to download a .dng file with PHOTO 2.o a window opens on the ANDROID phone and tell me if i ant to upgrade to PRO version and that i can use it for free.
I can either go ahead to try the PRO version or click on the X on the left upper corner, but then i get back to where i can choose jpg, jpg+dng, only dng.

I can do that but i use German language and ANDRIOD Huaway P30 PRO Phone

You may do a try to install the german version of PHOTO 2.0 just to check if this solves the problem.

Well, Panasonic and Nikon had their issues as well and i guess that nowadays it's virtually impossible to make software who run flawless on more than 60% of the devices.

It is definitely the software at fault. You have described my Fotos 2 experience exactly. (Q2 + iPhone 6)

I am most disappointed that Leica should promote an app that does not appear to have reached beta stage yet.

Actually I think this is what was intended. You have a WiFi connection when reviewing images or using remote. Normal operation of the camera needs the WiFi disconnected. It’s actually cool that Bluetooth is persistent and wake the camera up and sometimes revive the WiFi after a while. Now if they would only get GPS over Bluetooth to work. It only works when WiFi is on and in remote mode

You are correct.  I just received this reply from Leica Support:

When your Leica Q2 is connected to Leica FOTOS you can shoot only with the remote function in Leica FOTOS. It is not possible to use the camera.  For this reason you get the message to disconnect from Wi-Fi when you press the shutter.

So, nothing wrong but I believe this is different from the previous version, when you could use the camera normally while connected to FOTOS.

Protocols such as Airdrop use point to point wifi and are probably 10 times faster than what you get with Fotos, so there must be something wrong somewhere?
