Sorry to tell you that you must send your M9 for repair.

- sensor is corroded, obvious at the first image

- maybe false contacts (or other thing) for writing on SD card

Leica would take care of these (at a cost or not depending on them ! ) or offer an "upgrade program for another recent M "

For what it's worth, I'm very sorry to see that.  It'll happen to mine and everyone else's at some point, and although I knew this was "all part of the fun" when I decided to get into the Leica system, it'll be gut wrenching when it does happen.  And I won't be getting an alternative recent CCD-less M either.

That is not corrosion, that is electronic failure. The first image is very similar to the "beam me up, Scotty" banding that plagued the first 1500 M8s (missing mass contact), and another M8 sensor I had showed exactly the same pink panels as image 2. That was caused by a motherboard failure.

Why should this happen to you, or anybody for that matter? Electronic failure of the sensor (or rather the motherboard or ADCs, the sensor itself is hardly ever the culprit) is quite uncommon. The  Digilux2 used to break down this way quite frequently. Nearly all sensors needed to be replaced -for free for over a decade, courtesy of Sony.

Yes, the two files don't look anything like sensor corrosion.

...

Corrosion spots with the signature 'halos' can be seen in the first image.

I assume they were referring to corrosion, which is inevitable on all original M9/P/E/Monochrom sensors.

To be fair, I did think I had the beginnings of sensor corrosion until a good old sensor blower solved that issue! I have also had the apparently not unfamiliar issue of battery drain/ camera not starting after a full battery charge which was finally solved by changing to an older SD card.  Just waiting for the next thing to crop up, but will take the glass half full approach from now on.

Agree that I see nearly a dozen developed or incipient "fried-egg" corrosion spots in tomy's first image.

Also agree that the "waterfalls" of black or pink are a separate problem of electronic nature. Could be the sensor chip, could be the downstream chips that process the sensor data, could be a clocking issue (the M8 CCD produced "waterfall" errors with the first firmware due to startup errors - the camera could be fired before the image processing was fully booted.)

The fact that the pink "waterfall" is split down the middle of the sensor probably also means something to someone (the sensor is "read" as two halves via two outputs to speed output time).

An SD card error is possible - easy to test by using a different card.

Otherwise, either problem is going to require a trip to Leica to solve, regardless of how we diagnose it here. A sensor replacement may solve both problems - or it may require a sensor replacement plus replacing some other processing chip(s).

I sent the camera to Germany,  and got two offer.

I have upgraded to SL.
BTW Leica customer support team is working perfect.
