Ah but which SL lens will be your pick? Or do you already own SL lenses?

This guy's take on the AF is quite different to DPreview's, even though they were all at Wetzlar at the same time with the same beta-firmware cameras...

I've been wondering this myself. I think I have read, listened to all the SL2 reviews I could find. If there really is some significant weakness in AF as described by Chris, I'd think others would mention too. Chris as we all know is a very reliable/trusted source. Maybe issues were ironed out for production vs Chris' preproduction camera.

I already own the Leica SL 24-90 and 90-280. I also have the M adapter.

As been discussed, it's AF-C tracking for stills and video is slower than the FF competition that have PDAF. (Z7, EOS R, A7/A9)

If you primarily shoot AF-S you should be OK, as Panasonic's AF-S is blazingly fast as seen in the Q/Q2 and original SL.

To enjoy the whole SL experience , you need at least one SL prime, IMO.

Maybe the Summicron SL 35 or 50 next year.

Is there anywhere an information about long exposure capability? On the Q2 as ISO rise the max allowed time decreases very fast down to 8" @ Iso 6400 if I'm not mistaking ?

Thanks

If I understand your question correctly - on the SL2 you can have an exposure of 30 min at 50.000 ISO.

I see there are 'only' six user profiles available, two more than the SL and the same as the CL. Any idea why so few are offered? I can't believe they occupy a lot of memory or use a lot of power. I could use a lot more. I typically use:

- My default (for quick & dirty shots of the kids).
- Flash
- Silent (for concerts)
- M lenses

Given the choice I would add:

- Video: L-lenses with manual focus
- Video: M lenses
- Video: L-lenses with auto focus.

And I could add others.

I am intrigued with SL2. I know this is a dumb question but can I use my M lenses with this new camera?

Yes, but you need an adapter. Leica, like Lica M-adapter L (this adapter will transfer the 6-bit code on the M-lens to the SL-/SL2-body). Cheaper adapters exist, but typically without the 6-bit, M-lens transfer.

Apparently, the Leica M-Adapter T works as well.

Seriously, that's it?

So, they've dropped tethering? If so, sadly, that kills it for me, and possibly a bunch of others as well.

Sounds like the Fotos app is their "solution" to the problem they've had with tethering. Not sure that's a practical answer for the needs of a studio shooter. Time will tell.

No, I tried tethering in the store via USB-C and Leica Image shuttle, it worked fine.

My fears will be allayed when I see either native tethering with Capture One or a properly working plugin for Lightroom.

You can always transfer the files directly into the "capture" folder in Capture One Pro via Leica Image Shuttle, can't you?

Worse, my SL keeps freezing while tethering (S007 is ok).

From what I've been told..... Supposedly a new version LIS is coming tomorrow along with the release of the SL2, thus the above described proper operation when tethered with recent in-store SL2 testing. As to whether this will cure the SL tethered freezing, I guess we might know tomorrow. Wouldn't that be nice?
