Just bought the Leica SL2 before catching a mild but persistent Omicron (still confined after 11 days), so still learning.

I shot with the sigma 150 600 f5/6.3 DG DN OS for L Mount plus a sigma extender 1.4. Shot at 860mm.

Here is a shot.

Although the temperature got up to 60 degrees Fahrenheit this afternoon, there were very few people on the beach, and the wind had smoothed out most evidence of human invasion - nice!

Steppe buzzard (Buteo vulpinus)  @ Zuka Game Reserve S Africa. These raptors migrate huge distances, from Siberia & Eastern Europe to southern Africa. They arrive in southern Africa in September & return to the exact same area each year & then migrate back to Siberia & E. Europe in March. They are monogamous breeders & stay with one partner throughout life.

SL2 & Sigma 150-600mm @ 600mm   100% crop, the bird was about 100 m away.

Great! And quiet a smile-factor included; particularly for the two "gents" to the right...

I like everything about this shot, Alex.  What lens?

it was the most affordable zoom lens on the L map. Papa 20-60

It is surprising how good it can be with out been expensive, it is super light. weigh was important as a was testing some lenses on the m11 at the same time.

Very nice; it's amazing how light impacts the mood and feeling of - and adds dimensionality to - a scene. Out of curiosity: Are your many birds of prey photos (usually) taken from a specific spot (near the camp/form shelter), or are these "random" encounters?

Thank you Helge, appreciate your comments.

These are all random encounters, which is what makes it so exciting & challenging. I'll get up in the morning and decide to spend the morning or afternoon in a particular area, and then go out there and concentrate only on this specific area and see what I come across, whether it's birds or other wildlife.

This is something that I've also constantly drilled into the heads of all of my guides over many years: "choose a specific area and work through it, there's always going to be something interesting going on out there."   We're very fortunate to have access to large wilderness areas to explore, so there's always the danger of spending the whole day trying to cover as much ground as possible and trying to take in everything and then ending up seeing or experiencing nothing.
