jto555 Posted November 3, 2019 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, has anybody fixed a loose hot shoe? I don't want to send the camera back to Germany if it can be done easily enough at home. I can't find a YouTube on a loose leica hot shoe fix, but I am sure it is just tightening a couple of screws under the top plate... 🤞
Advertisement Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Hi jto555, Take a look here Leica m240 loose hot shoe. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted November 3, 2019 Share #2 Posted November 3, 2019 Hello, what do you mean by "loose hot shoe" ? Does it budge (not fixed) ? Or it doesn't retain the device fixed on it ?
jto555 Posted November 4, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted November 4, 2019 The actual hot shoe unit is wobbly on the camera. As if a couple of screws holding it on were lose under the top plate.
a.noctilux Posted November 4, 2019 Share #4 Posted November 4, 2019 Sorry, I've never seen this. The fixing screws is not DIY in this case. To be certain, I took the spring unit out, just simple "lift a bit" then push toward the rear with a small flat screw driver. No screws hiden under it. jaeger Posted November 4, 2019 Share #5 Posted November 4, 2019 (edited) opening the top plate is only by 2 bolts - super easy. but if sending it to Wetzlar is easier for you so I don't see why not. it's terrible to hear that more and more quality issues... it's by far the most expensive camera & lenses I've own but these are most xxxxx ever (where each x = 2 pages of sh!t). I have had 18 months of quality struggles with leica but recently another thing breaks again that need to send back, I'm running into 2 years of struggles now. The hot shoe is fixed by 4 little screws from the inside. To access these screws you must not lift the flex connecting the hot shoe to a small circuit board , which covers them. The top can be removed by two long screws, accessed through the bottom. Again, there is a flex cable between the camera and the top, which must be disconnected at the camera side plus a white cable connecting the hot shoe. There is also a small red connecting cable to the speaker.

jaapv Posted November 4, 2019 Share #8 Posted November 4, 2019 I don't have the official specifications, but I would advise tightening the screws to a torque of 15 Ncm, certainly not more than 20 Ncm.

Well, in fairness mine does get used a lot. About 1TB to 1.5TB a year over two bodies. Plus I shoot with both on camera and off camera flash for most of my work, so the hot shoe does get a work out. You could perhaps try a flash bracket?

jto555 Posted December 8, 2019 Author Share #12 Posted December 8, 2019 Well, I got the camera fixed by the very nice people in Leica Germany. So I am a happy camper again!
