Got a chance to see some murder hornets up close and personal.  For those not familiar with the problem here is Washington, here is a link:

Washington State Destroys The 1st 'Murder Hornet' Nest Of The Season : NPR

Many of the hornets were collected live for study and some are at a lab close to me.  I was invited to see them and get a few photos.  They are in cages in tents in a 3 door quarantine room.  Some were in thick glass jars for an experiment and the photos were taken through the thick glass, so hard to get a sharp photo under those conditions.  They are amazingly LARGE with huge jaws.  No wonder they can decimate a honey bee hive in a matter of hours.  The search continues for more individuals that they attach small radio transmitters to to track them back to their hives.

Lovely shot.  A question.  When you look at this photo 1:1 and look at the stars are they nice points or are they streaked out a bit.  lens coma?  I am wondering because my star photos with the Q2 have a fair amount of coma on the far edges and would like to know if this is my lens or the Q2 in general.  I do not get any coma when I use my Leica 35-75/4 on my Nikon.

Thanks.

I went out to get a pic of Delicate Arch at sunrise, but a rare early morning lightning storm stopped that. At least the sunrise was neat.

Aw, be brave.  Lightning can't hurt you unless it hits you, and what are the odds of that?

Seriously though, I like the sunset.  Wise decision.    Been to Delicate Arch a few times but never with an interesting sky.

Cool.  BTW, did you go to Negro Bill Canyon?  Prettiest hike I have ever been on and an interesting arch at the end of it.

Nice photos.  I have the little monsters in my yard now and then.  People are used to them here.  In the country they eat the larvae, fried in soy sauce and sugar of course.

My experience so far has been if you dont bother them they couldnt care less about people.

Regards,

W. Unland
