wlaidlaw Posted October 29, 2019 Share #121  Posted October 29, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I see that the early leaked photos of the dumbed down three button layout on the back of the new SL, appear to be correct. I will cancel my SL pre-order today. I hung on on the faint hope that the leaked photos were wrong. I use the three button layout on my CL and it is lacking and inadequate on a semi-compact camera and will I fear, prove to be hopeless on a professional camera. Leica would have been better to have obeyed the well known maxim: “If it ain’t broke; don’t fix it.” The brilliant 4 basic button plus other customisable buttons layout and interface on the 601 received almost universal approval from users, so why on earth change it? Very disappointing.  Wilson

scott kirkpatrick Posted October 29, 2019 Share #122  Posted October 29, 2019 Wilson there are four more (apparently) customizable buttons on the new camera. Wait a bit to see what they can be made to do.

Just take a look at the Vader thread for more info.

Scott, I was a bit dubious about buying another SL anyway due to its size and weight, against my every deteriorating arthritis, particularly of my hands. I have made my mind up that with the different and not particularly to my liking button arrangement being the final straw, I am going to wait until the M11 comes out, hopefully next year, with a 47MP sensor and maybe IBIS. My M240 will be around 7 years old by then, which is long in the tooth for a digital camera, although both my M8 and M9 are still working. Wilson

It would have to be smaller IBIS than what is currently in the SL2.  But these things are getting miniaturized all the time.  And while they’re at it, they should add an EVF, too, IMO.

Jeff S Posted October 29, 2019 Share #128  Posted October 29, 2019 That’s why I’ve owned an M with 28/35/50 for close to 40 years, so no explanation needed.  And why I’ve been resistant to buying an SL for the last 4.  But I might break down and get the SL2 and the 24-90 anyway for different occasions.  Either that, or an X1Dii... best digital body ergonomically I’ve tried, with relatively compact lenses. marcolinger Posted October 29, 2019 Share #130 Â Posted October 29, 2019 I totaly agree with you. I have had Leica M since 1977. And still have. I stopped buying new models after the M9. For the time being my favourite is the CL. I will certainly buy the SL2 but doubt it will give me the pleasure the CL gives me. A CL2 would probably be a better choice. scott kirkpatrick Posted October 29, 2019 Share #131  Posted October 29, 2019 @wlaidlaw I understand, but IBIS can be really nice. And while I love the new set of SL-SC lenses, I'm a heavy user of the M to L adapter. with the 50/2.0 APO M, or the 24/2.8 asph M . Currently there is an R80 SX sitting on the S1R. The IBIS helps a lot, but it is heavy. A CL2 would probably be a better choice.  I would prefer a CL2 over the SL2, if the CL2 had at least a few stops of IBIS and maybe a denser sensor, with the size of the camera being somewhere between the current CL and the SL/SL2. But who knows if there will ever be such a camera? there are rumors (they are only rumors) that this is the end of the road for that entire line. I don't think any more lenses are planned and who is making a better APS-C than is currently in the CL?
Jeff S Posted October 29, 2019 Share #133 Â Posted October 29, 2019 Lack of weather sealing in CL system to date is a deal breaker for me, given specific alternative M priorities. Jeff

Jeff I understand your concern; it's just not mine. I had no desire to upgrade from the Q to Q2 for weather sealing. My thought is that Leica does not guarantee it beyond the general warranty of the camera, and it will wear off eventually. How will you know that it wears off? When it does. When will that be? most probably when the camera is out of warranty.

Jeff  Edited October 29, 2019 by marcolinger Do you often run in riny conditions to take your best shots. I doubt. Even in rainy conditions you can protect your camera and, I have experienced it, she is far more wterproof as officialy indicated by Leica.

Jeff S Posted October 29, 2019 Share #138  Posted October 29, 2019 (edited) Trust the weather sealing, use common sense, but don’t lose sleep in the very rare instance it fails... or the system gets stolen... or bag falls off a cliff...  S**t happens. nicci78 Posted October 29, 2019 Share #139  Posted October 29, 2019 Don’t worry @bags27 CL is doing ok and will see a successor. However TL line is doomed. TL2 would certainly be the last of its kind. And this is for the best. Knowing that Leica will throw all its R&D into only one APS-C camera, is better than seeing it split between X and T in the past. Or between TL2 and CL today. New made in Germany TL lenses are still planned. But released date is unknown though.

It is at the far end of the camera. On any mirrorless it is close to the lens mount. There is no way that one can add IBIS in a M10. The sensor in M10 is 8-12mm further back than any mirrorless. Pretty impressive when you look at the compact size of the camera.
