This round of SL2 trial experience offered by Leica internationally will produce a number of QM sets available to Leica buyers later if one do not require SL2 that urgently.

QM-2 is not second hand. They have been pulled from the end of the production line, opened and examined that’s all.

The S3 supposedly records 4K video uncropped on a 64 MPx sensor. I doubt that Maestro II can process that amount of data.

Agree. But it was stated in the specs/or interviews that the S3 had the Maestro II processor of the S007.

using the new processor could partially justify the postponed launch of the S3 but would also look like awful planning ..

QM are showroom or trial products during new product launch that’s been sent back to Leica factory for checks and refurbishment at the end of trials and later sold to customers with full warranty & a 10% discount by Leica. I purchased my M10 as a QM set.

I would take a few shots with blown-out highlights. The digital rendering of highlights are typically harsh (compared to film), but some sensors are better than others.

+1. Gentler rendering of highlights is the one of the key things that I prefer with film.

Any digital camera that closes that specific gap with film would attract my attention.

Where does one find QM sets to buy?

I find it amusing that some of you seem so stressed out about being first in the line at their dealers to get your hands on this new camera, even without knowing much about it.

It's not going to make your photos suddenly much better so chill out, wait to see exactly what it is and what it does better or worse than your current body, and buy one when they're sitting on the dealers shelves.

There is some truth to this but it's more of a general discussion and most comments above are not made with specific reference to the SL2. If this new Leica camera uses the same sensor as the S1R/Q2, it'll be a big yawner. I'll transfer my slot to the SL3 waiting list and, to paraphrase silbeers15, 'strike their butts.' 😁

You certainly sound rational.

I agree completely that how good camera has no relation to the ability to produce good photographs.

Rather this tread is about Gear Acquire Syndrome.

It was my decision to sell of my SL three months ago not because I was not satisfied with the camera but have already in mind to replace it after 3.5-4 years of use with SL2.

Although I have my M10 and M lenses. I miss the AF function and awesome SL lenses and a ASAP arrival of SL2 would be strongly desired.

I hope the SL2 will be good enough for you to change your mind.😜

This is the third interpretation  of what QM2 mean that I have seen but it is very unlikely as the concept comes from ISO 9001 methodology.

I’m no sure about others but I’m only sharing my experience.

It made my decision to upgrade from my M240 to M10 worthwhile as my M10 came 10% less and I managed to off load my M240 at 60% of cost after 4 years of usage.

If so, I hope the S3 will be upped on the processor side as well...

My first post after reading the news, before this one, was in the S forum, concerning this exact point.  Last year we were told by Leica (through David Farkas) that the S3 had the same Maestro II processor as the S007.  But this might be a good reason for the delay.... and at least a more positive reason than many other suggested conclusions.

I don't under why it would look like awful planning. Delaying a product launch due to technological improvements sounds like smart planning to me. The new Nokishita specs show that Leica hasn't been standing still.

A camera that will have taken 18 months from announcement to launch, and postponed already twice looks like smart planning? looks more like a slow train crash to me. We not talking about innovation by competitors, we are talking about 2 products of the same company being developed in parallel over the past 3/4 years ...
