None of my Batis OLED readouts are close to accurate (infinity when I do astrophotography is usually about 16 ft. on the 18mm OLED for example..) I ignore them (put tape over them)

But on an 18mm f/2.8 lens wouldn't infinity be around 16 ft and beyond wide open?

not when focusing on stars, especially noticeable on magnified live view. If set focus so lens shows infinity, large donuts result. I believe its possible to calibrate the readout, but I have never bothered as I don't use or need that readout (not a feature that affects my purchase).

I think it's wonderful.  Bravo Nikon.

I have an 'original' 58mm f1.2 Noct Nikkor Ais which I use on my SL and Nikon Z6. It's lovely.  I also have a late Noctilux f1 6 Bit; love that too.

I welcome anything which pushes the boundaries, just as the Noctilux lenses have always done. Heck, I might even buy one of these Nikkor beasts.

As an owner for a 50APO, Otus55, Noct 58mm 1.2, 50lux and other awesome 50’s, I’d love to own and shoot with that new NOCT!

Should come with an assistant to lug it around for you. Or a motorized scooter.

For those moaning about the weight and size of the lens, here's food for thought (courtesy, Leica Rumors):

Jeezuz!!  It's as big as the 500mm f/8 Nikkor I used to shoot with on my F3hp!

I have the new Nikon Noct as well as the 50mm APO 'cron.  Wide open they are basically the same optically, including CA.  Of course the Noct is 2.1 stops faster and much bigger and heavier.  The Noct is very impressive, especially in terms of BOKEH and sharpness.  Handling wise, it is basically the same as my 180mm 'Cron; big and a bit awkward, but you can still manage it.

The Noct isn't a street lens, but optically it is a top shelf offering for a normal lens.
