LocalHero1953 Posted October 13, 2019 Share #3 Â Posted October 13, 2019 Yes, I have used it, but no on camera flash. For the wedding and speeches I used natural light I created a popup studio with off camera flash at the reception venue for couples and groups during the evening. JamesBarry Posted October 14, 2019 Share #4  Posted October 14, 2019 Events yes.  SF64, when necessary, which works fine.  SL in general for events is great to use (with 24-90 and 75 in conjunction with CL w/TL23).
Ingo Posted October 14, 2019 Share #5  Posted October 14, 2019 I use(d) the SL since Dec 2015 for weddings and events in combination with a Q. Flash was SF64 and then replaced with a SF60. For party photos I extended the setup with Cactus flashes in manual mode. Flash on the Q was a SF40.
SiggiGun Posted October 14, 2019 Share #6  Posted October 14, 2019 Yes, I do in combination with M. M for indoor and low-light and Wide-angle prime lenses SL with 24-90 for outdoor and genera purpose. SL with M Nocti or 75lux for special situations. Now I have a Apo50sl as well and this will probably change my usual lens selection. It is a great and versatile lens
BernardC Posted October 14, 2019 Share #7 Â Posted October 14, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Same here, SF40, but only for a tiny amount of bounce. Any manual flash would work just as well, I suppose. My method is to get a general balance for the room (typically around 1/32 or 1/64 power), and then forget that's it's on the camera. You just need to remember to flip it when going from portrait to landscape. It's only needed for rooms that are exceptionally contrasty and dim. The flash stays in the bag most days. FlashGordonPhotography Posted October 15, 2019 Share #8 Â Posted October 15, 2019 About 50 weddings with a pair of SL's. Started with an SF64. Now a pair of SF60's with either a wireless remote or a Nikon type TTL cord. I used to also use a CL with the 11-23 but now I have the SL16-35. I still use the CL with a 60mm for close ups and as a backup. AF can be an issue in low light. Pre-focusing helps dramatically. When the party starts I just set the 16-35 to 1.4 meters and f8 and shoot using DoF. The SL shutter is sublime. I've actually had priests comment on how little it disturbed the flow of the ceremony. Silent shutter is also available now. I carry the three zooms, 50mm Summilux and the 90 'cron plus a Canon 8-15mm fisheye and CL for macro and backup. Perfect kit for me. Battery life is surprisingly good. I change batteries maybe once during the day. I have a S1R but I don't plan on changing away from my SL's for weddings. I'm used to them and 24MP is perfect for the weddings I do. Gordon

Even Leica find it better (they don't sell the SF 64 anymore). The UI of the SF 64 is PITA and with the SF 60 you can add a SF C1 for remote control.
lx1713 Posted October 15, 2019 Share #11  Posted October 15, 2019 I do about 5-6 weddings per year. Pair it with the Q2. A couple of corporate events per week. 11-23, 24-90, Panasonic 70-200f4 with a pair of SF60s. 35,50,90 f2 is in the bag depending on my mood but usually the 35. I'm not fond of the TTL and the fact the flash overrides my white balance but it could be I'm still getting used to these. I was using a pair of Canon 600 in manual mode which are better in some ways but the SF60 is better in others. I use a DEMB flip up reflector which is okay for one of the SF60 but the other SF60 drops from bounce position easily. I agree with Gordon about AF. Needs improvement. I will magnify and AF within the magnify view. In fast action, I will go close with the 11-23 and prefocus with a sufficient depth of field setting. Works perfectly most times. I've only used the 16-35 for commercial jobs because it slows me down when I switch lenses. Generally, I work with only 1 SL. The spare are tucked away. I actually prefer the Q2's AF/manual focusing method and the shutter button is in my opinion much better than my SL's. It's a great combo. Lastly avoid the SF64. It's bad.
LocalHero1953 Posted October 15, 2019 Share #12 Â Posted October 15, 2019 (edited) Agreed on the SF64: the worst Leica purchase - perhaps worst camera kit purchase - I ever made Edited October 15, 2019 by LocalHero1953

FlashGordonPhotography Posted October 15, 2019 Share #14 Â Posted October 15, 2019 My SF64 treated me well. It broke the same week that the SF60 became available so it made the switch easy. Plus Leica replaced it with a new one so I was able to sell off a brand new unit. SF64 is best avoided. SF 60 is a much better flash. SF40 is great on a CL or M10.
