canpekdemir Posted October 11, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2019 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I'd like to know your opinions about the case that I want to switch to 28mm from 35mm summicron asph both v1 and I have a friend who would like to have a trade with additional 300$. I checked around the internet and saw that v1 of 28mm summicron asph has gone down quite much in price after being upgraded to v2 with benefits of being used in digital cameras without smearing around the edges.(A7RII) As much as i understand 35mm summicron asph v1 didn't get much of an upgrade so v1 keeps its value quite much. I wonder about your ideas and suggestions. Thanks a lot Edited October 11, 2019 by canpekdemir
Advertisement Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 Hi canpekdemir, Take a look here Opinions on Trade for Summicron 35mm Asph V1 to Summicron 28mm Asph V1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted October 11, 2019 Share #2 Posted October 11, 2019 I don't understand your questions, it is the two lenses prices or the usability of the two ? If to be used on Sony A7RII, I'm certain that the usability is "better" (fewer edges smearing) with the 35mm or better yet why don't you just try out the 28mm, then decide if 300$ more is a nice move from 35 to 28. If to be used on M digital, I don't mind, having had the two lenses along for a while. In this case, only different field of view is important, as in my use the whole rendering of the two Summicron-M is about the same (as always with most Leica lenses on Leica cameras). lct Posted October 11, 2019 Share #3 Posted October 11, 2019 $300+ is a bit too much but for $200+ i would do the switch if i didn't have those lenses already. I mean assuming they are in the same good condition and have or lack both 6-bit coding.
Gregm61 Posted October 12, 2019 Share #4 Posted October 12, 2019 I have a hard enough time figuring these things out for me, let alone someone else I know nothing about/how the lens is to be used/subjects/ paired with what else in the system. Wondering outside my 21-35-75-135mm comfort zone and whether the “35 for the day” is going to be the Summarit, Summicron or Summilux is hard enough.... LOL... Arnaud Thanks for the reply Arnaud, Yes, my major concern is about the price difference i have to pay. Other than that I already had 28mm in the past, so no problem for the move from 35 to 28 for me. 9 hours ago, lct said: $300+ is a bit too much but for $200+ i would do the switch if i didn't have those lenses already. Yes they are in same condition v1 asph with 6 bit codings. 5 hours ago, Gregm61 said: I have a hard enough time figuring these things out for me, let alone someone else I know nothing about/how the lens is to be used/subjects/ paired with what else in the system. For now I only have 50mm lens as my secondary lens. I wanted to have more focal lenght gap between the two. Overall, thank you all for the replies:)
lexontario Posted October 12, 2019 Share #6 Posted October 12, 2019 I would keep the 35 Cron V1 and buy a second hand 28 2.8 Elmarit.
Ko.Fe. Posted October 12, 2019 Share #7 Posted October 12, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) They say Ultron 28 1.9 asph does the same as 28 Cron. At least on my m-e, it is sharp, no defects lens. Cost 300+100. But who knows how it works on Sony, it is weird camera for RF lenses, IMO.
RayD28 Posted October 12, 2019 Share #8 Posted October 12, 2019 I have a v1 35 asph, v1 28 2.0 asph, and 28 asph 2.8. I have not used the 35 in over a year. I use the 28 2.0 some but use the 2.8 regularly. It's small and light and I don't often need the extra stop. The 28 2.8 and v4 50 2.0 makes a compact kit. Having said that, I would not part with the 28 2.0. But I have often thought of trading the 35 for a 21mm SEM. Good luck with whatever you decide. ru2far2c Posted October 12, 2019 Share #9 Posted October 12, 2019 You may want to use the lens on your Sony for a bit just to test it out. Is your friend willing to swap back if you are not happy with the lens?

I used to use one for my job from time to time but it could not compete with my M240 and Kolari modded A7s especially on M wides at edges and corners so i would advise neither the Summicron 35/2 asph v1 nor the Summicron 28/2 asph v1 to be used on the stock A7r2 sorry.
