With the SL2 coming, I would wait to buy a nice used SL instead of a new one. There will be a lot of SLs on the market as people upgrade to the SL2.

This reminds me somewhat of the dilemma I faced a few months back. Hasselblad were offering a generous discount on the X1D in advance of the anticipated but unannounced X1D II. I nearly bit and even made them a cheeky offer which they refused. As it turned out luck was on my side as the X1D II was launched at a reduced price compared to the original model, something that displeased a few X1D owners who saw their camera's resale value fall.

So, stating the obvious, the imponderables for the SL2 are what enhancements will it have over the SL that a prospective purchaser would really regret not having and will Leica do a "Hasselblad" and launch the SL2 below the price level set for the SL? If the SL already has everything needed then the only reason not to buy one is if one believes the SL2 will be priced close(ish) to the current SL offer.

I suspect that, drawing on the recent Hasselblad experience and considering the pricing of the Lumix S1/S1R, Leica actually will surprise and launch the SL2 at a lower price than some might expect. #JustGuessing

This is what Steve Huff had to say about the potential launch date.

"I will say this. I was invited to a massive Leica event in October. I had to SADLY turn it down as I had a prior obligation for the same exact date that I could not get out of but my guess is that it will be for the SL2. Then again, who knows!"
