Advertisement Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 Hi lct, Take a look here a very small 35mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
OR120 Posted October 12, 2019 Share #42  Posted October 12, 2019 I've only been able to find a few youtube reviews and other old posts online regarding the VM 35/1.4 v2. I've not met one on the street. From what I've seen (not much) the samples from the older Ultron f1.7 looked best. This type of out of focus background seems to be more like my old Leica Summilux. When I compare prices -- again that older Ultron 1.7 is more expensive than all the others we've listed in this chat. The only complaint about the older Ultron 1.7 seems to be the focus ring. I'm not sure that would bother me although I was very comfortable with the Leica focus tab on the old 35 1.4. Not a deal breaker though - it's the image that is the deal breaker. I've mentioned to a few guys I worked with in the past - if they would like to part with one of their old Summilux 1.4's - please let me know.
ejg1890 Posted October 14, 2019 Share #43 Â Posted October 14, 2019 Check out several 35m produced by Voigtlander. They have several small 35m each with a different set of characteristics: Voigtlander 35m 1.4 Nokton II (MC/SC) Voigtlander 35m 2.0 Ultron Voigtlander 35m 2.5 Color Skopar Pancake II These are much lower than the Leica lenses, sharp but not as sharp as Leica. As stated each has its different characteristics so it depends on what your looking for.

Never did side by side comparos to be honest but i struggle to find any significant difference re sharpness with my Summicron 35/2 asph v1. OoF rendition is another story as often, although the CV 35/2 doesn't produce a much sharper bokeh than the Summicron asph in my view.

However, "all reviewers" across the boards indicate that once you get down to pixel peeping the Leica lenses are sharper. But for my taste the CV 35/2 more than does the job. I also like the CV 35/1.4 Nokton II SC. I like the classic look of the SC myself.

Is it a MS-Optical rehousing of the Yashica T5 35mm Tessar? Wow, it looks great.

james.liam Posted November 2, 2019 Share #52  Posted November 2, 2019 Cute little lens. FleaBay has the T5 for US400-500. Cannibalization & conversion is probably another $350? Seems a lot for a Tiny Tessar. The only Tessar I've owned is the Nikkor 45/2.8. I can't say it was a favorite (long sold). Can anyone tell me what I'm missing about the character? Matches well another favorite of mine there, the Elmar-M 50/2.8. I tried to find a competitor among Leica lenses, namely a coated Elmar 35/3.5 from 1948, but as nice and well built that little lens can be, it is totally outperformed by the Tessar, which did not come as a surprise given the venerable age of the Elmar while the Tessar is from the nineties. FWIW. 1
james.liam Posted November 2, 2019 Share #56 Â Posted November 2, 2019 I would definitely give the Tessar another shot if I could get that Tashica/Zeiss LTM.
lct Posted November 2, 2019 Share #57  Posted November 2, 2019 Just now, james.liam said: I would definitely give the Tessar another shot if I could get that Tashica/Zeiss LTM. You may wish to ask Japan Exposures if MS Optical (now MS Optics IINW) can do it for you. Beware that my experience with this lens is limited to the digital CL though. For the best Tessar-like experience on full frame, i would try an Elmar-M 50/2.8 personally. YMMV.
FrozenInTime Posted November 2, 2019 Share #58  Posted November 2, 2019 The MS 35mm 1.4 Apoqualia is a useful little fast lens. Welcome, dear visitor! james.liam Posted November 2, 2019 Share #59  Posted November 2, 2019 I considered the MS for a while but after seeing a series of shots between ƒ/1.4-2, with the CA was uncontrolled, colors off, my ardor vanished. Cute little bit of kit, though.
Archiver Posted November 4, 2019 Share #60 Â Posted November 4, 2019 Now I'm wondering if a dead Contax T3 or T2 would be worth converting into a M mount lens. I have a perfectly functional T3 and the rendering of that lens is one of my favourites of all time. There's just something about how T3 images look, I can't put it into words. If you look at flickr, T3 images have a distinct look across almost all users, and I've love to achieve this with digital. How close is the Yashica T5 in look to the Contax T3? Anyone have any input?
