Are those prices being shown on eBay? If so that might just be where bids currently are. Where did you see these?

You can actually look back at the actual historical eBay selling prices - on your filter  select sold items and you can see those that sold and I’m pretty sure that ( just been to have a look and yes it shows selling prices )

eBay Prices in the UK are around £3K for the CCD and £3.8K for the CMOS.

Prices have increased as I bought my Monochrom (CCD) for £2.3K and sold it ( needed the cash ) for £2K

This was during 2018!   I hate the fact I sold it I regret it all the time not because of the increase in value but because I love the CCD sensor.

I guess I was just really lucky. Have wanted a silver MM1 since they were first released, but $7999 was WAY out of my price range. Lusted for the camera for years, but figured it wasn't meant to be. Then last year I came across a private seller who had the camera, with less than 5000 clicks, in pristine condition with all original packaging, but a corroded sensor. He was asking $2600. I called Leica and was able to get the camera in to them a day before the price for sensor replacement increased. They replaced the sensor, and tuned it up, and now it's like a brand new $7999 camera. Definitely a KEEPER, and I hope to have it till my photo making days come to an end.

Best,

-Tim

Case in point, there's currently a silver MM1 with new sensor listed on the classifieds on this forum for the US dollar equivalent of just over $4100.

No takers, no questions, asking price lowered to 3500 Euro, despite silver rarity.  The same seller now has a black version advertised, also with new sensor, for 3200 Euro.

Only actual sales prices matter.  Anyone can ask a lot. Still waiting for a trend, or even one having sold, for “well over $4000”, which would mean at least $4300 to me.

Just yesterday a silver chrome MM1 with original sensor sold on eBay for $3050. Considering that the cost of replacing the sensor is now $1700, and that virtually all M9 and M9M sensors are expected to develop the corrosion issue, this essentially amounts to someone having paid over $4700. Is that enough trend, or are you still waiting?

Disingenuous way of rationalizing your claim.  Most people will either use with old sensor and value accordingly or, if they think corrosion is inevitable, buy from a reputable dealer with new sensor and warranty.  Or even a refurbished deal from Leica. I’m still waiting for even ONE ACTUAL SALE for “well over $4k”, let alone a trend.  I haven’t seen a dealer listing for that amount, let alone a sales trend.

Funny how you’re quick to cite a classified ad here in support of your theory, yet fail to acknowledge the now lowered price, not to mention another MM,  WITH NEW SENSOR, from the same seller, for roughly $1k less than your claim. And those are just asking prices, not real sales.

This is actually getting humorous. What would you like me to say? Perhaps that you are clearly the most well informed and intelligent person on this forum--perhaps even the planet? Okay, there you have it. Satisfied?

It’s your thread and claim, not mine.  I don’t know anything for sure, so show us. As I’ve written, I’ll be happy to see evidence of sales well over $4k, as I own one.  You’ll likely be right eventually (say if the M10M changes market dynamics), but it just doesn’t seem the case yet.

Maybe it would help for you to go back to my original post. What I said, and later supporterd, was that I was seeing asking prices over $4K.  I did not claim to have witnessed actual sales of that amount. It was at that point that you decided to jump in and teach me how to do a Google search. A lot of wasted time and energy could have been saved had you not read into my comment things I didn't say.

£1200 is low for a trade-in, unless it's not had the new sensor.  But in that case the trade in would probably be even lower, because the camera would need to go to Wetzlar for a new sensor in order to be saleable by a main dealer.

Given the circa £3000 price being asked for good used MM1s, a dealer such as Red Dot would offer 85% of that as a commission sale, 75% for a trade in, and 66% to buy the camera off you.  Subject to condition of course, and the sensor status.  Even the lowest yield option would give you circa £2000 on a good 'new sensor' camera.

But actually, I am with Colin on this. Keep it. I'm keeping mine, which has the new sensor.  I moved to an M246 from my first MM1 but that camera just didn't do for me what the MM1 did, so I'm back with another one now.

I did read and understand, which is why I noted in the very first responding post that asking prices aren’t sales prices, and only the latter show value trends.  And I also haven’t seen asking prices well over $4k, except the one close to $4k here (rare silver) that received no interest. Great if you’re right, but you haven’t provided any useful evidence.

Generally the prices went up on Ebay and such, but with patience, on more local sites reasonably-priced M9M can be found (of course depending where you are). I had given up until I saw one with new sensor and recent CLA, for a price that would have been considered attractive even one or two years ago (a fair bit below a well-priced used M246).

I just got one with new sensor installed by Leica for $3000 with card, 3 batteries and a bunch of other stuff.

I am very happy with it.

I saw you posted in another thread and it seams you have sensor corrosion.

Are you able to return? The new sensors don’t corrode so maybe whoever sold it to you lied?

Or it could have received a ‘new’ sensor, but before the latest corrosion resistant version, which was Leica’s repair practice for quite some time.

Agree. Seller still should have disclosed that and I'm hopeful that CS Gray can return (if desired).

My local dealer has one MM1 with new sensor, 1 year warranty and in very nice condition on stock. Price is 39990 SEK, which is about 4000 US dollars. Bear in mind that this camera is sold with 25% VAT which can be deducted for people outside EU and any company within EU.

I just looked at the two listed at B&H. There is no mention of new sensor with either description which leads me to believe they haven't been replaced.

I bought mine earlier this year from B&H -- the sensor was not stated as being replaced on the website but I went in and they confirmed that one of the two they had was replaced in DEC 2018, but they did not have the paperwork to prove it. So I verified by calling Leica and the information was accurate. But I am frustrated because Leica will not provide me with the paperwork as proof because I am not the one who had it replaced. So if I ever decide to sell, the buyer will have to call them to confirm.

But be careful, even when buying from a "reputable dealer" such B&H. They were selling both bodies they had for the same price and only one sensor had been replaced. Of course they will tell you this upfront if asked.
